Here is billionaire Sir Richard Branson kite surfing with some other dude's totally n*d* and soaking wet POA girlfriend clinging to his back. Early report said Branson was cavorting around his private island Necker with a naked supermodel. That hot naked supermodel is Denni Parkinson, she is actually the girlfriend of the cuckold photographer who took these pictures. Yup, the guy taking the pictures is one cuckold b*st**d because you just know Sir Branson is also hitting that girl. Branson was posing for photographer Stephane Gautronneau when he asked Branson if model Denni Parkinson, Gautronneau's girlfriend who was present at the time, could get in some pictures. Yup, the dude volunteer his girlfriend for this whole thing. Sir Richard reportedly says of the photoshoot: "What can you say if you are asked to pose with a n*k*d lady? I only wish I had eyes in the back of my head." Branson's wife and two grown children watched the shoot from the shore. Click on pictures to enlarge!

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson (born July18, 1950 in Blackheath, London, United Kingdom) is an English industrialist, best known for his Virgin brand of over 360 companies. Branson's first successful business venture was at age 16, when he published a magazine called Student. He then set up an audio record mail-order business in 1970. In 1972, he opened a chain of record stores, Virgin Records, later known as Virgin Megastores and rebranded after a management buyout as Zavvi in late 2007.

With his flamboyant and competitive style, Branson's Virgin brand grew rapidly during the 1980s -- as he set up Virgin Atlantic Airways and expanded the Virgin Records music label. Richard Branson is the 236th richest person according to Forbes' 2008 list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of approximately $2.4 billion USD.

Within a day, the swine flu death toll in Mexico climbed to 152, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise its global pandemic flu alert level to phase four. Confirmed cases in other parts of the world: 50 in the US, six in Canada, two in the UK and one in Spain have been linked to travel to Mexico.

Brazil, Australia, Israel and New Zealand have suspected swine flu cases, but three of the four people tested for the virus tested negative in France. While the WHO has not advised restriction of international travel, it has asked people with symptoms following international travel to get tested and treated. Swine flu symptoms include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, cough, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea. There is no risk of infection from eating well-cooked pork and pork products, says the WHO. How prepared is India to tackle swine flu? Not as much as the Health Ministry would have us believe. A reality check of the government's contingency plan to stop swine flu from entering India showed that nothing is in place at Delhi and Mumbai airports that get the most flights from the affected countries.

On Monday afternoon, the health ministry informed the media that it has issued an advisory asking travellers to India from affected countries to report flu symptoms to the airport health authority or call 1075 or 011-23921401. The anti-flu drug oseltamivir (brandname Tamiflu) is very effective against the H1N1 virus that causes swine flu and India has stockpiled 1 million doses, with plans to add another 1 million for an emergency. Oseltamivir is manufactured in India by several companies, including Cipla and Hetero Drugs, are in talks with Mexico, Israel and Latin American countries for oseltamivir and can manufacture 1.5 million doses within four to six weeks. We, however, don't supply to the Indian government, which I beleive has already stockpiled it, Cipla's chief executive Amar Lulla told HT.

Symptoms:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in humans the symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. The 2009 outbreak has shown an increased percentage of patients reporting diarrhea and vomiting.

Because these symptoms are not specific to swine flu, a differential diagnosis of probable swine flu requires not only symptoms but also a high likelihood of swine flu due to the person's recent history. For example, during the 2009 swine flu outbreak in the United States, CDC advised physicians to "consider swine influenza infection in the differential diagnosis of patients with acute febrile respiratory illness who have either been in contact with persons with confirmed swine flu, or who were in one of the five U.S. states that have reported swine flu cases or in Mexico during the 7 days preceding their illness onset." A diagnosis of confirmed swine flu requires laboratory testing of a respiratory sample (a simple nose and throat swab).

Advertising is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. “While now central to the contemporary global economy and the reproduction of global production networks, it is only quite recently that advertising has been more than a marginal influence on patterns of sales and production." I donn know how this is going to effect IPLT20 or rather Rajasthan Royals Image. Pictures in the tabloid News of the World show Warne and two 25-year-old models involved in sexual positions with a blow up toy, allegedly taken on an eventfull night. The alleged episode occurred in west London during Warne's Hampshire game against Middlesex when he claimed 7-99. One of the models, Coralie Eiccholtz, has known Warne for a few years but said things only started heating up after she learnt that the cricketer had separated from wife Simone.

"I've known him for years but nothing happened before because I knew he was married," said the New-Zealand born Eiccholtz.
"But since his split he's been texting like mad. He even sent me one during a match."
The other model Emma Kearney praised Warne's performance. "Shane's a stallion and very willing to experiment. He loved playing around with the inflatable and was up for anything," she said.

After the 10-wicket win over Middlesex, Warne claimed he was suffering. He said in an interview: "If I'm honest, I'm tired out."
Warne's management did not immediately return calls today.

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words...

Feroz Khan Passes Away

PB Rapchik Items On 11:19 AM 0 comments
Bollywood actor Feroz Khan today lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his farmhouse in Bangalore. The 69-year-old actor-filmmaker died at 1:30 am at his farmhouse, a family sources said. Khan is survived by actor son Fardeen Khan and daughter Laila Khan. He was diagnosed with suffering from cancer and was being treated at a Mumbai hospital for a long time. His funeral will take place later in the day in Bangalore. The actor was born and brought up in Bangalore. The Bollywood actor of yesteryear was known for his hit films of the 70s and 80s which include Dharmatama, Qurbani and Jaanbaz. The latest film he featured in was the blockbuster hit Welcome in 2007.

Early life and background

Feroz Khan was born in Bangalore, India. His father was Sadiq Ali Khan Tanoli, who was a Pathan originally from Ghazni province of Afghanistan and his mother (Fatima) came from Iran. He has three brothers Sanjay Khan, Sameer Khan and Akbar Khan. After his schooling from Bangalore, he arrived in Mumbai where he made his debut as second lead in Didi (1960)

Career

For the next five years he was forced to play the second to last lead in most of the movies. Through the early 1960-70s he made low-budget thrillers opposite starlets. He also appeared in an English-language film titled Tarzan Goes to India in 1962 opposite Simi Garewal. His first big hit was in 1965 with the release of Oonche Log. It was his first major hit, but failed to attain the success he had hoped. Again, in the same year, he played a sacrificing lover in the mushy musical Arzoo. With this, Khan earned his entry into A-list second leads. With the film Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Khan won his first Filmfare award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 1971-75 he appeared alongside his real-life brother Sanjay Khan in the hit film Mela.

He turned into a successful producer and director so as to improve his career opportunities as a leading man. He produced, directed and starred in the 1975 -77 film Dharmatma which was the first Indian film to be shot in Afghanistan and was also his first blockbuster hit as producer, director and star. This movie was inspired by the Hollywood film The Godfather. In 1976 he was one of the many actors to appear in the cult classic horror film Nagin which also had his brother Sanjay in one of the lead roles.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading Bollywood star. He directed and starred in many of his films. The movie Qurbani (1980) was the biggest hit of his career and also launched the singing career of Nazia Hassan. In 1986 he directed and starred in Janbaaz which was a box office hit. One of his best movies, with an all star cast, great songs and excellent cinematography. In 1988 he directed and starred in Dayavan which was a remake of a South Indian film titled Nayagan. After he directed and starred in Yalghaar (1992), he took a long break from acting for 11 years and took to producing, directing and even editing a few films. He launched his son Fardeen Khan's career with the 1998 film Prem Aggan which was however a box office failure. In 2003 he produced and directed Janasheen (2003) which also starred his son Fardeen and marked Firoz's acting comeback, it would be pertinent to mention here that he always used performing animals in his films - a Chipanjee & lion were used in this Janasheen but People for Animals (PFA) Haryana chairman Naresh Kadyan moved a complaint in the court of law at Faridabad for animal cruelty & legal action as per law against the Producer, Director & actor. He starred with his son again in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2005) which was not directed by him and most recently appeared in Welcome (2007).
He also starred in the Punjabi film Bhagat Dhanna Jat (1974).

Personal life

In 1965, he married Sundari, a designer and part of the Page Three circuit in Mumbai. They had two children together, Laila and Fardeen Khan (b. 1974). In 1985, after 20 years of marriage, he divorced his wife. His son recently married Natasha Madhwani, the daughter of his occasional on-screen lover Mumtaz. His daughter Laila is married to Indian tennis player Rohit Rajpal.

The legendary actor died on 26th April, 2009 at the age of 69, in his Bangalore farmhouse. He was a known Indian nationalist. The actor had been diagnosed with cancer over a year before his death. As he was an animal lover & to mark respect / pay kind homage & tribute to the departed soul, the International Organization for Animal Protection - OIPA in India lit a candle. How Poor are You?

PB Rapchik Items On 10:34 AM 0 comments
One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from the trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad".

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yes", said the son. "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants to serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing ? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Politics & the Nation

IT companies to hire more foreigners abroad
  • What prompted this move?
  • One is the fact of growing protectionist winds abroad.
  • The other is that despite having substantial overseas revenues, Indian IT companies have no more than 5% non-Indians among their workforce; save TCS which is stated to be having around 9%.
  • In spite of their resolve to stave off protectionist winds, Indian companies may not succeed too well in hiring local talent because there simply is no availablity of local talent. This can be gauzed from the fact that even IBM, which is a true blue multinational, has more than 80,000 Indians on its workforce in India.

ICICI Bank fights 'foreign' tag
  • In a very interesting development India's largest private sector bank is reportedly fighting to remain classified as an "Indian" bank.
  • The issue came to the fore because of Press Note 2 of 2009 issued on February 13. It redefined foreign ownership of Indian companies. According to this, a company incorporated in India has to satisfy two conditions to be classified as Indian-owned: beneficial foreign ownership by all forms of investment must be less than 50% and Indian shareholders must have the right to appoint a majority of its board members. Accordingly, a company that has more than 50% of such foreign investment would be considered foreign-owned, even if Indians have the right to nominate a majority of board members and thus have control.
  • ‘Foreign investments’ include the whole spectrum — direct investment, portfolio or foreign institutional investments, investment by a non-resident Indian, depository receipts (global [GDRs] and American [ADRs]), foreign currency convertible bonds and preference shares.
  • As on March 31 2009, foreign institutional investors had a 35.47% share in ICICI Bank and 27.12% shares were held by the custodian, against which depository receipts have been issued. Since both these count towards foreign investment in the new policy, the total foreign holding in the bank would be 62.59%, as per the data on National Stock Exchange.
  • If classified as foreign-owned, the bank's downstream investments will also be counted as FDI, barring it from investing in sectors that have caps, such as banking itself.
  • It is not just ICICI Bank, reportedly there are six others including HDFC Bank, Development Credit Bank and ING Vysya Bank that face a similar predicament.
Government keen on raising data encryption standards
  • The government is reportedly seeking help from telecom companies, software makers and internet service providers (ISPs) to frame regulations and raise encryption levels, a measure of data security.
  • Encryption means converting data and emails into codes that travel through the network and later get reassembled into the original form.
  • The government seeks to raise encryption levels from the present 40 bits to 128 bits, before eventually moving to 256 bits, which is the standard in Europe and the US. A higher encryption level will ensure more secure financial transactions on personal computers and cell phones. It is also vital for protection from hackers.
  • Most western countries do not allow financial transactions on the internet through computers and mobile handsets, if the encryption level is less than 128 bits.
  • The issue of encryption came to the fore last year when the communications ministry threatened to ban Canada’s RIM, maker of BlackBerry handsets that are popular with corporates and professionals, as data transferred on these devices used the 256-bit advanced encryption standard. India's security agencies lacked the technological capabilities to monitor data transfers on the Internet when encryption levels were higher than 40 bits. But now, they have reportedly enhanced their capabilities and hence the move to increase the encryption standards.
  • In addition to this even RBI's stand that 128 bit encryption should be the norm employed by banks to protect sensitive and confidential information, seems to have pushed the government into taking this move.
Debate
  • Should English be banned?
    • In the wake of Mulayam's reported stance against English, this issue came to the fore again. Two intellectuals give their opinion on the issue. What a contrast it makes! A leading Hindi writer defends English while a Professor of English bats for Hindi.
    • Some excerpts:
      • Against the ban: There might have been reasons before Independence for politicians to support Hindi as a common unifying language in a multi-linguistic and multi-cultural subcontinent to consolidate their struggle against the British. English, then, would have logically been perceived as the language of colonial rulers. But now, the situation has entirely changed. Hindi is now the language of sarkar, bazar and sanchar(government, market and media) and it has been monopolised by the dominant caste and religious group. Official Hindi has become a vehicle of obscurantism, communalism, blind nationalism and, to top it all, casteism. English, in post-colonial India, has become a language of modernity and empowerment. Poor and low caste people and minorities know that Hindi will make them naukar and English will escort them to the seat of the master. If you ask me to give a slogan now, it would be angrezi laao, desh bachao.
      • In defence of the ban: English in India is not the same thing to everybody. For about one per cent of the population English is a triumphant and invidious badge of privilege and distinction. For the next 10% holding well paid jobs in the professions, it is a necessary ancillary skill painfully and imperfectly acquired. For the next 50% of “Hindi-medium types”, it is a fig-leaf with which to hide that sense of inferiority and shame which we have afflicted them with. And for the bottom 40% of us who are still wholly illiterate, it might as well be the language spoken on Mars. Angrezi Hatao is in effect the same slogan as Garibi Hatao. It will inevitably lead to a more just distribution of resources, opportunities and wealth. And that is precisely why all Angreziwallahs are hysterically against such a move.
Finance & Economy
  • An excerpt from today's op-ed article that explains global supply chains very well:
    • Trading is now a competition between complicated global supply chains that produce and supply goods made with parts and labour sourced from many countries. Everything from shoes to Barbie dolls to laptops and cars use inputs sourced in different countries, assembled elsewhere and sold in completely different markets. These highly efficient supply chains provided better quality and lower priced goods and services to consumers.
    • The success of these supply chains depends upon lowering of trade costs including policy barriers — tariff and non-tariff, transportation costs, regulatory costs and communication costs. In fact, theoretical models predict that there is a threshold level of costs below which trade flows gain momentum and above which there is not enough incentive for global supply chains to thrive. It was this “vertical specialisation” that was responsible for the exponential growth in trade. Spread of supply chains across the world also resulted in the simultaneous growth of incomes of countries around the world. Any disruption of these supply chains would, therefore, be disastrous — creating a “domino effect” impacting incomes and employment across several economies. By the same logic, measures that help in the rejuvenation of existing chains could stimulate the much needed global demand. In these times of slumping demand, it is therefore, imperative that their cost advantage be maintained.
    • Given the global nature of these supply chains, the effects of even small hikes in tariffs will get amplified in their impact on trade. In addition, higher tariffs affect domestic producers who use imported inputs. Dismantling existing supply chains and replacing them with local supply chains will be a long and painful process. The combined effect of all these may set in motion a vicious spiral of increasing costs and dropping demands. This could result in the 9% trade decline in 2009, predicted by the WTO, accentuating the dip in GDP growth.
Sports
  • Some major sporting events scheduled to be held in India
    • 2010: The Commonwealth Games and the hockey World Cup
    • 2011: Cricket World Cup.
  • GMR may buy Liverpool
    • Read this report. India's billionaires have taken a fancy to owning sports clubs. Interesting.
Language lessons
  • invidious: adjective
    • Containing or implying a slight or showing prejudice
  • fig-leaf: Noun
    • A covering consisting of anything intended to conceal something regarded as shameful

Bow Barracks Forever is a film about the triumph of the human spirit. It is not easy to fight back the march of progress. And progress brings with it change-change that is often painful, that breaks continuity, that destroys tradition, history, the power and the passion of communities that have lived and grown together over decades. Anjan Dutt's film, simple, powerful, almost pleading for hope, captures the real life story of a tiny but resolute Anglo Indian community right in the heart of bustling north Kolkata trying desperately to keep alive its hopes, dreams, aspirations-and its identity, as the world around them changes swiftly and tries to impose that change on them and their lives. It is a tale of heart breaking loneliness and immense courage. It is a film we are proud to put out. For we, as a production house, believe that film makers like Anjan Dutt not only challenge us to look at life differently but also tell us apocryphal tales about brave, lonely people who fight their destiny and, in the process, redefine the landscape of Indian cinema. Bow Barracks Forever is a film that will stay with you for years.

It was a fairytale wedding of sorts. Just not the sort that most little girls dream about. The bride looked every inch the princess - as in the ogre princess Fiona from the Shrek films - and the groom was tall, dark green and handsome. Hospice nurse Christine England, 40, married her fiance Keith, 44, in full costume and make-up in front of 100 guests who were also in fancy dress.

The new Mr and Mrs Green (yes, really), of Barnstaple, Devon, had spent three hours having their make-up done before walking down the aisle. Christine said: 'The idea just came to me. I knew what we would go as because Keith looks just like Shrek. 'It was funny because when we said our vows Keith had these green ears sprouting from the top of his head.' She tried to get her 18-year-old son to dress up as Donkey, another character from the offbeat cartoon fairytale, but said 'he wasn't having any of it'.

Mr Green, a builder - who doesn't seem to mind being likened to an ogre - added: 'It was a very strange experience to say the least, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. We love the films and my wife tells me I bear a resemblance to Shrek.' The couple hired a make-up artist to make them look like the characters - voiced by Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz - in the hit films. Christine's mother Annette England, 66, said: 'It's not necessarily how you imagine seeing your daughter get married but it was great fun.' Source:SWNS,Dailymail.co.uk

As Georgia Browne breastfeeds her baby son Monty, nothing could seem more normal or natural. At eight months old, Monty thrives on his mother’s milk, but someone else is also thriving on Georgia’s milk – her father Tim! That’s because Tim’s battling cancer. He drinks his daughter’s breastmilk every day to boost his immune system and give him the strength to fight the disease. After researching the idea on the internet, Georgia, 27, expresses her breastmilk as often as she can for her father to drink. He has the milk on his bowl of cornflakes every morning. It’s been his daily routine for the past six months and Tim believes the milk has given him a boost.

A shock diagnosis
Georgia’s world was turned upside-down when her beloved dad was diagnosed with cancer in July 2007, just a week before she was due to get married. Tim, 67, was admitted to hospital with stomach pains and within hours doctors discovered he had colon cancer. He was rushed into surgery where they operated to remove a tumour. But despite the major surgery, a tearful Tim was released in time to walk Georgia down the aisle. ‘It felt amazing having him at the wedding – it made it more emotional for everyone,’ she says. After the wedding, Georgia’s family rallied to support Tim as he went for further tests and treatment. But within weeks, he was told the cancer had spread. And soon after the family received even more devastating news – the cancer was terminal. ‘It was a terrible shock. He’d never been ill before,’ Georgia says. ‘He still is really fit. He goes to the gym three times a week.’ Tim endured gruelling chemotherapy and after a year went into remission. But the cancer returned when Georgia was pregnant with her first child.

Life-saving milk
Georgia gave birth to Monty last July and began breastfeeding. A month later, she watched a TV documentary in which an American man believed his prostate cancer had been helped because he drank breastmilk. ‘The man went to a milk bank for his supply of breastmilk and drank it in a milkshake,’ Georgia recalls. ‘I started researching on the internet immediately and found separate studies in America and Scandinavia both supporting the health benefits of breastmilk to cancer sufferers. ‘I watched the documentary and thought it was a really mad idea, if it was true,’ she says. 'I started looking on the net and found research suggesting breastmilk helps kill cancer cells. ‘Finding out I could help was amazing. I could play my small part in helping my dad do something positive for his illness. 'When I talked to him about it, he thought it was a great idea. He thought: “Why not?”’

Seeking support
Georgia broached the subject with her family before going ahead. They all thought it was fantastic and supported her 100 per cent. ‘My mum thought it was great and my sisters and brother were supportive,’ she says. With the family’s blessing, Georgia started expressing her milk for Tim straight away. She dropped the first batch round to her parents’ home in a freezer bag, which her mum popped in the freezer. ‘I thought he’d mix it into a milkshake like the man in the documentary, but when Mum defrosted it the next day, he simply poured it on his cornflakes with a splash of normal cow’s milk. He said it didn’t taste that different to cow’s milk, maybe just a bit sweeter if he didn’t get the mix right,’ Georgia says. ‘I know some people think it’s shocking but we didn’t think it was shocking at all. He thought it was funny. He was telling all his friends about it.’

Tim spoke to his doctors and nurses about drinking breastmilk and they were more than happy for him to try the unconventional treatment. 'They told him that anything that could help was positive,’ Georgia explains. ‘They were very supportive and backed the idea.’

Hope at last
A month after starting the regimen, a scan of Tim’s cancer showed a slight, but distinct, improvement. Although doctors can’t say whether the breastmilk’s helped, Georgia says he’s brighter and has more energy. She has promised to continue feeding Tim for as long as she can. 'He has been having chemo as well as drinking the milk so there’s no way of really finding out if it is helping,’ Georgia explains. ‘I’m still feeding Monty so I feed him first, then I fill a bag for my dad. We’ll continue as long as I am breastfeeding.

‘It feels like I’m doing the most natural thing for the people I love. 'I’ve been there when he has drunk it and it’s just not an issue. 'Not many women can say their dad drinks their breastmilk. But I would do anything to give my dad more time with me, our family and Monty.’

Mallika sherawat has been out of action from bollywood as she has been busy shooting for her upcoming movie Hiss, in which we will get to see her as a snakewoman who goes on a killing spree. Hiss is directed by Jennifer Lynch of Boxing Helena (1993) fame, which incidentally won her a Raspberry award for the worst director for the movie in 1994.

We bring you the exclusive pictures of Mallika sherawat as a Snakewoman. Mallika Sherawat's look has been crafted quite painstakingly in Hisss. In the movie, Mallika Sherawat has to wear huge contact lenses that even cover the white of her eyes. Mallika Sherawat has to take out the lenses every few hours to let her eyes breathe. The elaborate nagin elaborate costume has to be kept on for 8-10 hours at a stretch, and she has to be carried around.

Hisss revolves around a vengeful nagin (Mallika Sherawat), who shape shifts into a gorgeous woman and goes to the city to hunt for her mate, who has been captured from the jungle by an American, George States. Hisss also stars Irfan Khan who plays a cop who has to track her down to stop the destruction she unleashes in the city.

Remember the social bookmarking website, which gathered too much popularity very recently? They had a very special widget for all its users to show random posts from their blog/site. They also enabled users to share mp3 along with their link urls. This is what their website shows early morning today:

With the shattering news to bloggers, they had to loose the most usefull widget ever, perhaps. Luckily, I re-visited the website too find, that these guys are actualy looking into the matter. They have just removed their website, and replaced the homepage with a text that means - A severe Virus Attack, at their server.

Hopefully the bloggers need not to panic, and these matters will soon be resolved by them. I just hope to get back the same old bookmarking site.

...and also, ovb, the most important thing, their lab page of 5 different, ever best widgets, I have ever used. (Lab Page Screenshot Below...)

Temperature in Kolkata

PB Rapchik Items On 3:28 PM 0 comments
Kolkata continued to sizzle under a scorching sun for the third consecutive day as the mercury rose over 40 degree Celsius. The streets were deserted in the afternoon as high humidity level added to the discomfort factor. The weatherman has ruled out any chance of a norwester - a type of storm which leads to cooling late afternoon at this point of the year - within the next day or two.
A Candle Melts in the Scorching Heat

‘Today (Wednesday) the forecast is, maximum temperature will hover around 40 degrees Celsius and the sky will be partly cloudy,’ a duty officer at the Meteorological Office told IANS. ‘There is no possibility of any norwester in a day or two,’ he said. Power cuts and a water crisis made the Wednesday morning further unpleasant as long queues of people with buckets and jars were seen at deep tubewells and street taps installed by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The city has been under a heat spell for the last two days. The mercury level touched 40.8 degrees Celsius Saturday, five degrees Celsius above normal. The situation became more suffocating Sunday, as the maximum temperature soared to 41.2 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in the city in April in the last 14 years.

In fact, a heat wave-like situation prevails in Burdwan with Asansol and Durgapur being the worst hit. The temperature in Burdwan has been hovering between 41 degrees and 43 degrees Celsius. Two pavement dwellers have succumbed to sunstroke in Asansol in the past 24 hours. Several patients have been admitted to Asansol hospital with complaints of diarrhoea. Doctors have advised people to carry umbrellas and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Doctors said many Calcuttans were falling victim to the excessive heat. “People are being admitted with heat exhaustion, diarrhoea, hepatitis and fever,” said critical care expert Subrata Maitra. Heat exhaustion, an initial stage of heat stroke, manifests itself through weakness, fatigue and a drop in blood pressure. “One should avoid outdoor activities as much as possible and drink plenty of fluid to prevent dehydration. People should also try not to eat or drink at roadside stalls to avoid being afflicted with gastrointestinal ailments,” said Maitra.

Of the patients turning up at various gastroenterology clinics in the city, many are complaining of pain in the kidney or urinary bladder. “Crystals are formed in kidneys and urinary bladders because of inadequate intake of fluid in extreme heat. If left untreated, these crystals can grow into stones,” said surgical gastroenterologist Sanjay De Bakshi. Some Calcuttans wilting under the solar assault flocked to Nicco Park for some relief, though temporary. “Today’s footfall was over 7,000 and the water park was packed to capacity,” said Partho Chatterjee, the deputy manager (marketing) of Nicco Park.

OROMIYA, Ethiopia -- Ayatu Nure and His 12 Wives + 78 Children = > Any Problem. If you were to visit 65-year-old Ayatu Nure and his family at their compound in the Oromiya region of Ethiopia, you would probably find eight of Ayatu's 12 wives harvesting banana roots for dinner, while chasing after their combined 78 children. At first glance, this unlikely family appears carefree -- but a closer look reveals that many of Ayatu's children are hungry, possibly even malnourished. Their main source of food -- banana roots -- doesn't provide much nutrition, but unfortunately this is the only thing Ayatu can afford.

In this remote, densely-populated region of Ethiopia, it is common for men to have multiple wives. In Ayatu's case this tradition has backfired. Years ago, he had enough land and food to satisfy everyone's needs. This changed when Ayatu had to sell land or cattle to make the dowry payment for each new wife he took, usually a sum of between $500 and $1,000. Now, the family compound is almost bare from overgrazing, two of his wives have moved with cattle in search of greener pastures, and two others died from unknown illnesses in the 1990s. The situation is so desperate that Ayatu cannot afford to send his children to secondary school, and he is marrying off two of his 15-year-old daughters to ensure they are fed. Thirteen others are living with their married siblings.

Living with two wives and eight children in a neighbouring town is Ayatu's eldest son, Dagne. Dagne said he and his father made a mistake by taking more than one wife and blames it on a lack of education, "Men and women don't have the knowledge of birth spacing or the desire to seek this information," said Dagne.

Ayatu's family is enormous by any standards. In Ethiopia, having at least five children per mother is the norm. "The population is growing at a rate of 2.7 percent annually, said Dr. Monique Rakotomalala, the Ethiopia representative for UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. With the population of the country now at 73 million, she is concerned. "That means two million new people every year." At this rate, the population could double over the next 24 years, severely stretching existing resources. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Ethiopia's Minister of Health, says the secret is smaller families. "We have to educate our communities and tell them the benefits of smaller families because it will bring a better quality of life to each household."

To assist families like Ayatu's, the Government of Ethiopia has launched a network of 29,000 health extension workers to teach both men and women about family planning and provide contraceptives to those who want to delay childbearing. So far, two of Ayatu's wives are using long-term implants. Many women in remote villages opt for this method because of the distance between their homes and health centres. Yet, health extension workers visiting families in this pastoral landscape also face difficulties as they have to walk long distances to reach one household, and sometimes lack sufficient stock to meet the demands of many communities.

Ayatu admits he failed to acknowledge the consequences of having such a large family, and wants to be a role model for young people so they will not make the same mistake. "I wasn't educated," said Ayatua. "Nobody asked me. Nobody told me of the consequences".

Colombo: Over 35,000 trapped Tamil civilians made a dramatic breakout from LTTE-controlled areas in Sri Lanka on Monday, with President Rajapaksa issuing a 24-hour deadline for V Prabhakaran and aides to surrender. Meanwhile, two suicide bomb attacks suspected to be LTTE handiwork were reported in which 17 people were feared killed.

Displaying aerial footage of civilians making a beeline for freedom, shot by Lankan spy planes, the President said, “The footage clearly shows people are defying the rebels and escaping. TISS Raped Student's Statement

PB Rapchik Items On 12:16 PM 0 comments
Indian, Mumbai,
Friday, April 17, 2009 at 02:28:56 AM

The 23-year-old TISS student from USA, who was allegedly raped by six of her friends on Saturday night, was just about to finish her course at the institute and leave for her home in Idaho, USA. Born to American parents who embraced Hinduism through ISKCON, the girl had come to India on a religious visit in the beginning.

Rape accused (left to right): Karan, Vinamra and Darayaus

In her statement, a copy of which is with Mumbai Mirror, she recounts her horror and details how the friends, whom she trusted, raped her despite the fact that she was having her periods. We reproduce the statement:

Complainant: Name withheld, Religion: Hindu, Age: 23, Occupation: student

I came to India from USA in October 2008 to attend a religious pilgrimage... I am a student of Gender and Development at the TISS, Deonar. I have been in Mumbai to attend the said course since January 2009.

After coming to Mumbai, I met Annie Brown, 21, who is also a student of TISS and stays in Hostel no. 6. Shruti Chakravarthy is the course co-ordinator.

On 11/4/2009, at about 10.30 pm, I went to Annie's room... She said she was working… and once done, she would go out with her friends... She asked me whether I would like to go along, and I said that I would...

After that, Annie and I left TISS at about 11 pm and met her friends just outside the gate of the Nowroji Campus. Her friends were: 1) Vinamra Soni, 2) Jaskaran Singh Bhullar, also known as Karan, 3) Hersh, 4) Anish, and 5) Devsi. I had met Vinamra, Karan and Anish at Annie's birthday party in February. All of us proceeded to Cafe XO, which is a lounge bar at Deonar.

At Cafe XO, the boys ordered 10 bottles of Kingfisher strong beer (650 ml). They kept saying that they wanted to drink a lot and get drunk. I did not want to drink... but they kept insisting that I drink with them. Finally, I ordered a Cranberry Vodka...

After some time, Hersh said that he wanted to smoke and... asked me to join him. I said I did not smoke but would accompany him... He also told me that I should try the drug LSD.

We went back inside and the waiter brought some more beer... Hersh kept pressuring me to drink more. So, I drank a little more beer... Outside, one of the boys rolled a joint and some of the guys smoked it. Then we went back in.

Once more Hersh insisted that I drink... He poured beer in a glass and put it in front of me, asking me to finish it immediately. I did not want to but I drank the beer. After some time, I started feeling dizzy and a bit light-headed.

Then, all of us went outside again... I said we should leave, and we all left... a little after 1 am.

Karan and Hersh asked what my plans were for the night. I said I wanted to meet up with my friend Ahmed in Andheri at Club Bling, Hotel Leela Kempenski. I told them that they were welcome to join me. The boys insisted that Annie should join us, but Annie said that she had to leave... After that, at about 1.30 am, I sat in an autorickshaw along with Vinamra and Karan. Anish, Hersh and Devsi, sat in another. We told the driver to take us to Club Bling.

After 20 minutes, the other rickshaw stopped... and Hersh told me that before going to Club Bling, we would first go to their friend's house at Andheri... and then go to Club Bling. I said that I didn’t want to go.

After about half an hour, the rickshaw stopped somewhere in Andheri, near a building. We got out and went to the sixth floor... We saw a man aged about 24 to 25 years. He took us into his flat. He was introduced as Kundan.

After sometime, I went into the bedroom. Vinamra and Jaskaran were in the bedroom. Kundan came in the room, put on some music and left the room. Vinamra and I sat on the thin mattress that was kept on the floor against the wall in the room. We then lay down on the mattress. He hugged me and started kissing me. I told him to stop, but did not heed my request. He said that he loved me and started kissing me again. Karan also came there and started kissing me. Karan lifted the T-shirt up, and also pushed my bra up. He started sucking my breasts. I tried to stop him but he continued to do so.

I went into the bathroom, and tried to call my friend Ahmed… but he did not answer his phone. I then also called my friend Vikram Pathak, who lives in Los Angeles, USA, but as he was busy, he could not speak to me. As I was in the bathroom for a long time, someone knocked on the bathroom door. I came out of the bathroom. At this point, I was unable to walk properly. I went into the bedroom again, and lay down on the mattress. I was not feeling well at all. I was also scared and feeling very uncomfortable. I just wanted to leave that place. I tried to get up, but I could not stand steadily. I fell down on the floor.

I woke up at about 10 am. At that time, I was unable to open my eyes. With great difficulty, I opened my eyes. I saw that Vinamra was sleeping on my right hand side. Hersh was sitting near me, playing with my hair. Karan was sleeping next to Hersh. I felt very disgusting and dirty, and scared. I did not like him playing with my hair. Then he covered my body with a blanket, up further, to my shoulders. I realised that my bra was undone. I also realised that my belt was unbuckled and my jeans had been pulled off, all the way down, and were around my ankles. My underwear was also pulled down to my ankles. I was very scared and worried. I was scared that they had raped me, that they had stuck their penises inside me. I also was on my periods, my menses, so I checked to see if I could feel my tampon, still inside of me. At first I could not, and I was very worried. I pulled my pants up, zipped up my pants and buckled my belt, and then went into the bathroom. In the bathroom, I found that my tampon was still inside me, it was just pushed very far up. I was experiencing a lot of pain in the area around my vagina.

When I went outside the bathroom, all the boys started waking up. Hersh insisted that I should go to a chemist. So Hersh, Vinamra, and I got into a rickshaw and drove to a chemist, just around the corner from their friend's house. When we got to the chemist, Hersh insisted that I should take a contraceptive pill. I thought that he had sex with me, and that is why he was telling me to take the pill. Hersh asked the chemist for an I-Pill. I took the pill. I was feeling very scared and uncomfortable and so I left immediately… and went back to my hostel.

On 12/04/2009, I informed my course co-ordinator, Ms Chakravarthy, about the incident. I went to Rajawadi Hospital with her. I was medically examined. I handed over my underwear, bra, T shirt and jeans worn at the time of the incident to the doctor who conducted the medical examination. The doctor referred me to the police. I waited for the police, but they did not turn up. Thereafter, we left the hospital.

I was so traumatised by the incident… I was unable to come to the police station till today. After speaking to my mother and friends, and Ms Chakravarthy, I felt supported, and comfortable to come to the police station and register a complaint.

I state that from my condition, and as my clothes had been removed, and as there was pain around my vagina, I feel that I was administered a drug in the beer that I was forced to drink by Hersh at Cafe XO, and later, taking advantage of the effect of the drug, or stupefying substance, I was raped by Hersh, Vinamra, Karan, Kundan, Anish and Devshi. All of them, conspired together to commit this offence.

I read the statement. It is true and correct, and as per my narration.

Amazing Breast Support Cushion

PB Rapchik Items On 6:17 PM 0 comments
Kush is an extremely important accessory if you’re one of those women that would do anything to prevent gravity from affecting their breasts. Apparently Kush will support women’s breasts all through the night and prevent them from developing cleavage wrinkles…

It works best for women who sleep on their sides, that have a C-cup or larger and that might have had breasts implants in the past. Kush breast support cushions cost between $55-60 depending on their size. Not the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely one of the most bizarre.

A solution to the world's urban transportation problems could lie in two wheels not four, according to executives for General Motors Corp. and Segway Inc.

The companies announced Tuesday that they are working together to develop a two-wheeled, two-seat electric vehicle designed to be a fast, safe, inexpensive and clean alternative to traditional cars and trucks for cities across the world. The Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility, or PUMA, project also would involve a vast communications network that would allow vehicles to interact with each other, regulate the flow of traffic and prevent crashes from happening. "We're excited about doing more with less," said Jim Norrod, chief executive of Segway, the Bedford, N.H.-based maker of electric scooters. "Less emissions, less dependability on foreign oil and less space."

The 300-pound prototype runs on a lithium-ion battery and uses Segway's characteristic two-wheel balancing technology, along with dual electric motors. It's designed to reach speeds of up to 35 miles-per-hour and can run 35 miles on a single charge. The companies did not release a projected cost for the vehicle, but said ideally its total operating cost _ including purchase price, insurance, maintenance and fuel would total between one-fourth and one-third of that of the average traditional vehicle. Larry Burns, GM's vice president of research and development, and strategic planning, said the project is part of Detroit-based GM's effort to remake itself as a purveyor of fuel-efficient vehicles. If Hummer took GM to the large-vehicle extreme, Burns said, the PUMA takes GM to the other.

Ideally, the vehicles would also be part of a communications network that through the use of transponder and GPS technology would allow them to drive themselves. The vehicles would automatically avoid obstacles such as pedestrians and other cars and therefore never crash, Burns said. As a result, the PUMA vehicles would not need air bags or other traditional safety devices and include safety belts for "comfort purposes" only, he said. Though the technology and its goals may seem like something out of science fiction, Burns said nothing new needs to be invented for it to become a reality.

"At this point, it's merely a business decision," he said. Burns said that while putting that kind of communications infrastructure in place may still be a ways off for many American cities, the automaker is looking for a place, such as a college campus, where the vehicles could be put to use and grab a foothold in the market. There's currently no timeline for production, Burns said. The ambitious announcement also comes at a time when GM's future is hanging by a thread after receiving billions of dollars in federal aid and is in the midst of a vast restructuring that could still lead to a filing for bankruptcy protection.

Meanwhile, the ongoing recession has resulted in some of the lowest industrywide vehicle sales in more than a quarter century. But Burns argued that some of the most revolutionary ideas have been born out of tough economic times. "The next two months, and really 2009, is all about the reinvention of General Motors," he said.

"You don't have an inbox...yet": Now you can't simply sign into hotmail; you type in your hotmail address and password and are taken into "windows live", which is a god-awful attempt by microsoft to snare you into their crappy immitation versions of facebook, photobucket, aim, etc. Annoying but ignorable... until today.

When I signed in as usual tonight I got this message:

"You don't have an inbox...yet"
Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail and get a free, customizable inbox with lots of storage and great security.
Note: Whether you use Hotmail or not, you can always go to your contact list."

Ever since email was invented I've had a hotmail account as my personal account. Like everything else on the internet, hotmail was bought by microsoft, and they did some hell out of it perhaps.

Later I searched onto net and found, i'm not the only one getting this msg.
"This is very very weird... Ok earlier today I signed into my hotmail account with no problem. But now just recently, I signed in with my correct user id and password, it keeps saying "You don't have an Inbox yet, sign up for one here". WTF is this crap? Anyone else getting this? Please tell me its not some kinda virus" said one at yahoo answers.

I hope my 6 years worth of saved emails aren't gone forever. Or maybe it's for the best. Been meaning to clean it out for....... 6 years. Yesterday Only I had thousands of emails going back to 2002, and today I "don't have an inbox...yet"!!!??? Apparently the programmers "upgrading" windows live lost or erased the only part of my account that I actually used, liked, or cared about; my hotmail. I'm afraid to follow their prompts to "sign up" because that might start me over new, eliminating ANY chance I might have of recovering my 6 years of correspondence.

Recently Someone said: "Their server is down. It should be back up within 24 hours. They said there is a small chance of some mail being deleted due to issues. But, hopefully it wont. Im having the same sign in problem and I called the support team and was told to wait it out. The Server is DOWN, it said so on messenger, you can't log in to anything that uses Live Error: 80048820."

Not really acceptable, but at least it's something - we've had the same problem here ...

Protected Storage PassView is a small utility that reveals the passwords stored on your computer by Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and MSN Explorer. The passwords are revealed by reading the information from the Protected Storage. Starting from version 1.60, this utility reveals all AutoComplete strings stored in Internet Explorer, not only the AutoComplete password, as in the previous versions.

This utility can show 4 types of passwords:
  • Outlook passwords: When you create a mail account in Outlook Express or a POP3 account in Microsoft Outlook, and you choose the "Remember password" option in the account properties, the password is saved in the Protected Storage, and this utility can instantly reveal it. Be aware that if delete an existing Outlook Express account, the password won't be removed from the Protected Storage. In such a case, the utility won't be able to obtain the user-name of the deleted account, and only the password will be shown. Starting from version 1.50, the passwords of Outlook Express identities are also displayed.
  • AutoComplete passwords in Internet Explorer: Many Web sites provides you a logon screen with user-name and password fields. When you log into the Web site, Internet Explorer may ask you if you want to remember the password for the next time that you log into this Web site. If choose to remember the password, the user-name and the password are saved in the Protected Storage, and thus they can be revealed by Protected Storage PassView. In some circumstances, multiple pairs of user-name and passwords are stored for the same logon window. In such case, the additional passwords will be displayed as sub-items of the first user-password pair. In sub-items, the resource name is displayed as 3 dots ('...')
  • Password-protected sites in Internet Explorer: Some Web sites allows you to log on by using "Basic Authentication" or "Digest Access Authentication". When you enter the Web site, Internet Explorer displays a special logon dialog-box and asks you to enter your user-name and password. Internet Explorer also gives you the option to save the user-name/password pair for the next time you log-on. If you choose to save the logon data, the user-name and the password are saved in the Protected Storage, and thus they can be revealed by Protected Storage PassView. In this category, you can also find the passwords of FTP servers.
  • MSN Explorer Passwords: The MSN Explorer browser stores 2 types of passwords in the Protected Storage:Sign-up passwords

Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong to an Indian Kashmiri father (who has acquired British citizenship) and a British mother. She has seven siblings, six sisters and one brother. She was raised in Hawaii. At age fourteen she was approached by an agent and began modeling; her first job was a jewellery campaign. She continued modelling in London.

This is a Pic, which is claimed to be taken, when she was in London. She looked quite different then, if at all it's she. It's for you to decide...

Howrah/Kolkata/India: The mutilated body of a 16-year-old schoolgirl was found at Manikjheel near Kona railway station in Howrah around 6.30 am on Wednesday. Autopsy revealed she was gangraped before being strangled. The girl was last seen with friends. Bithi Roy, a Class IX student of Aryabani Balika Vidyalaya, Howrah, and a resident of Kona’s Choudhurybagan area, allegedly left home with schoolmates on Tuesday afternoon. When she didn’t return till late in the night, her father lodged a missing diary with the local police. Police have started an investigation but no arrests have been made. The autopsy report revealed that Bithi was struck by a sharp weapon in the forehead, waist and legs before being throttled. A senior police officer said the injuries point to the fact that she put up a tough fight before being overpowered. Investigators have collected from the spot, among other things, a hair clip, a slipper belonging to Bithi and part of a chappal that may have been worn by one of her assailants.

Police said Bithi received an SMS on the night of March 31 from one ‘Sanjayda’ warning her not to come between him and his girlfriend Madhu. Efforts are on to trace the youth. Bithi’s father Sambhu, who works in a nearby factory, told police there was a call on his daughter’s cellphone around 8.30 pm on Tuesday, which he received. It was normal for Bithi to leave behind her phone when she left home. The caller — a male — wanted to know if Bithi was at home. When Sambhu identified himself, he heard the caller speak to some other people and then disconnect. Sambhu has passed on the number to police and told investigators that some youths would tease his daughter. On Tuesday afternoon, Bithi’s family members did not suspect anything when her schoolmate Priyanka Mondal turned up at their house. Bithi left with an exercise book that she was to return to another friend.

Priyanka Mondal, a schoolmate of murdered Bithi Roy (16), said the two had gone to a friend’s house on Tuesday to return a notebook. The three then went to the nearby Jheelpar ground. Priyanka left her friends there for a while. By the time she returned, others had joined the group. They chatted there till 5.45 pm. The friends then left for their homes. When Bithi did not return till late in the evening, Sambhu went out to look for her. When inquiries at her friends’ houses drew a blank, Bithi’s father lodged the diary at the police station. A search was launched for the girl. Priyanka told them that Bithi would occasionally chat with a local boy named Amar over the phone. Priyanka’s mother also said that Bithi would often leave her schoolbag at their home and leave for sometime.

Amar was traced to his aunt’s home. He admitted that he used to speak to Bithi over the phone, but claimed he had never met her in person. Amar, however, revealed that Bithi had a boyfriend named Rintu, who lived nearby. The search party decided against going in search of Rintu as it was already late. Around 6.30 am, Priyanka’s mother called up Sambhu and informed him of a body lying near the station. Sambhu rushed to the spot and identified the body of his daughter. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee visited Bithi’s residence during the day and offered her condolences.

The Pakistani Taliban publicly flogged a 17-year-old girl in the Swat valley, accusing her of violating Islamic law, according to a videotape aired by Pakistani stations. The girl in the video is held face down outdoors by three men and whipped by a fourth. The men have their faces covered partially covered with shawls and several dozen others watch the flogging. She screams in the Pushto language, begging them to stop and to forgive her. The man with the whip asks the others to keep her pinned down and tighten their grip.

The incident is the first widely reported allegation of brutality by Taliban since militants reached a peace accord with the government on February 16. Under the agreement, Sufi Muhammad, who leads Tehrik-e-Nifaaz Shariat Muhammadi pledged to end violence in return for the imposition of Islamic law in the valley, which is part of NWFP. “In which Islam is this allowed?” former human rights minister Ansar Burney told Express News television after stations began airing the video. “This is the most shameful act.”

Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan told the station that the girl was found leaving her house with an unrelated man and therefore had to be punished with 34 lashes. The girl was locked in a room after the flogging, the broadcaster said. “The video dates back to January and has nothing to do with the peace deal,” said Afrasiab Khattak, a leader from the Awami National Party, which governs NWFP.

Provincial minister Basheer Bilour told Express News television he doubted whether the flogging seen in the video was genuine. Bilour said he will investigate the incident and those involved will be punished if the beating is confirmed. It wasn’t immediately possible to independently verify the authenticity of the video.

The peace accord was aimed at ending 20 months of fighting by pro-Taliban clerics. Extremists have extended their grip in Swat since a similar peace agreement collapsed in July. They have destroyed over 180 schools, banned education for girls and beheaded government officials. source:bloomberg.com

A cyber spy network based almost entirely in China has hacked into computer networks around the world, stealing classified information from governments and private organisations in more than 100 countries, a team of Canadian researchers has reported. The system, dubbed "GhostNet" (幽灵网) by the researchers, infiltrated networks in dozens of embassies, foreign ministries, government departments and offices in several cities belonging to the Dalai Lama's Tibetan government-in-exile, the Canadian team said. The network was uncovered after the Munk Centre for International Studies was initially approached by the Dalai Lama's office to investigate allegations of Chinese espionage.

In over 10 months of study, they then found a far larger spy network, targeting more than 1,295 infected computers in 103 countries.

'High-value targets'
According to one of the researchers, close to 30 per cent of the infected computers "are considered high-value political and economic targets". They include computers located at ministries of foreign affairs, embassies, international organisations, news media, and NGOs, Ronald Deibert, director of Munk's Citizen Lab, wrote in an email. The study did not name specifically which governments had been targeted by the spy network, although the researchers said the system was focused on the governments of South and Southeast Asian nations.

They said they had seen no evidence that US government offices had been breached. The researchers said the GhostNet system - which they described as still active - had been armed with a wide-ranging set of tools, including the ability to retrieve documents, and turn on web cameras and audio systems to act as remote listening posts.

The study found that the network was based almost exclusively in China, although the researchers stopped short of saying the Chinese government was involved in the system.

Easy to hide
"One of the characteristics of cyber-attacks of the sort we document here is the ease by which attribution can be obscured," Deibert said. "Regardless of who or what is ultimately in control of GhostNet, it is the capabilities of exploitation, and the strategic intelligence that can be harvested from it, which matters most." He said the study highlighted the growing capabilities of cyber attacks and the ease with which the internet can be used to gather high value and sensitive information.

Speaking to The New York Times, a spokesman for the Chinese Consulate in the city dismissed the idea China was involved. "These are old stories and they are nonsense," Wenqi Gao, told the aljazeera. "The Chinese government is opposed to and strictly forbids any cybercrime."

She's one of the most controversial characters in Indian history, some labeling her the father of the nation's secret mistress. Gandhi might have a taken a vow of abstinence when he was 37 but it was one that he found extremely difficult to stick by. It was common knowledge that Gandhi used to have young female aides sleep with him from time to time primarily for "body heat". The women even fought over who got to spend the night in his bed. So if such a dude was so infatuated by the Bengali devi, there must be something to the lady, right?

Yes, she is Sarala Devi, neice of Ravindra N Tagore. Her husband and Sunil Dutt were Pb Mohyals. Who was Saraladevi Chowdharani and how did she impact the life of one of India's greatest sons, MahatmaGandhi? She stares poignantly out of the early 20th century black and white pictures, clad in rich silk sareesand her black hair flowing loose. Her bold, sharp features and intelligent eyes full of depth stare out ofyellowed pictures. Calling out to unravel a strange story that was buried with her remarkable life, which tookan unusual turn when the Mahatma stayed at her Lahore residence in 1919 when her Punjabi husband Rambhuj Dutt Chowdhary was in jail.

Swami Vivekananda had once commented to Sister Nivedita that Saraladevi had the perfect education. Martin Greene in his book Gandhi: Voice of a New Age Revolution mentions that Sarala was educated at the Bethune school and then she studied physics at the Science Academy. After getting a degree in English, shewent on to study French, Persian and Sanskrit. Sarala was an accomplished musician and poetess; she composed many patriotic songs and issued a collection of them, Satagan. In 1895, she taught at a school in Mysore for a year and returned only after falling sick. She edited Bharati for a year and was an active participant in the militant nationalist movement of Bengal. She attended meetings of societies that had all male members and presided over boxing and wrestling matches organised by her. She was probably the onlywoman leader in Bengal's militant nationalist movement.

A clear hint of Sarala and Mahatma Gandhi's unusual relationship is given in a recent book by Rajmohan Gandhi, Mohandas: A True Story of a Man, his People and an Empire . Rajmohan quotes from one ofGandhi's letters written on October 27, 1919, and addressed to Anasuyaben in Ahemdabad: "Saraladevi'scompany is very endearing. She looks after me very well." Rajmohan further adds that "the following monthssaw a special relationship that Gandhi called 'indefinable' after its character changed in June 1920. Inbetween he had not only overcome his caution regarding exclusive relationships but even thought of a'spiritual marriage', whatever that may have meant, with Saraladevi.

Here are some quotes from Gandhi's letter to Sarala dated May 2,1920: "You will continue to haunt me in my sleep. No wonder that Panditji ( Rambhuj Dutt ,Sarala's husband)calls you the greatest shakthi. You may cast the spell over him.You are performing the same trick over me"

Professor Datta, who has been researching Gandhi and Sarala's relationship for a while mentions to TheTribune, "There is no doubt that Gandhi was drawn to her and dazzled by her, this is mentioned by both Rajmohan and Martin. At that time she was 47 and he was 50 years of age. From October 1919 to March 1920, Gandhi stayed in Lahore and she later visited Sabarmati several times. There was much talk of their relationship, whisperings, innuendos, etc and this relationship was terminated by the efforts of Devdas Gandhi, Mahadev Desai and especially Rajagopalachari in June 1920, when the latter sent a letter to Mahatma Gandhi, asking him to hold back."

Datta adds, "And what of Sarala, she was really an independent-minded woman who wanted to know whereshe stood with Gandhi in her relationship with him. She later complained that she gave up her prestige, hersocial responsibilities, and moral traditions but for what. She possibly wanted a marital relationship and somelegality to what they shared and did not want to be a stooge or a guinea pig or a cat's paw and she wanted aclear space for herself in his life and she was utterly uncompromising on this.

Mahatma Gandhi had also written so many so called spiritual love letters to Sarla Devi. Below is a copy of one of those letters:

343. LETTER TO SARLA DEVI

February 1, 1940
MY DEAR SARLA,
Take a few minutes tonight after prayer.
Love.

Raima Accepts Proposal of 24 Yr Old

PB Rapchik Items On 1:32 PM 0 comments
A 24-year-old firang boy proposes marriage to Raima Sen... She doesn’t turn him away:
Raima Sen was seen dining with an Englishman a few days ago. Nothing strange about it except that the backstory is straight out of a Mills and Boon romance paperback. Raima met the man in question at a family wedding in Jaipur last week. Our source revealed, “A total stranger there took a fancy to Raima, walked up to her and straightaway asked her if she would marry him. Raima was shocked. At first, she didn’t know what to say. But soon, they got talking and exchanged numbers. After that, the guy came to Mumbai and got in touch with her.” Raima pretended to be coy, “I did go out with the guy to China House, but we were not alone. We were accompanied by four other friends, two his and two mine.” A little investigation revealed that the gentleman in question is called Bennett and he lives in London. Is marriage on the cards? “No he is too young, just 24. I found his proposal quite funny actually. He is my mother’s friend’s son. We are now in touch on the phone and email.”  So is he planning to visit India again? Raima laughed, “Yes, he is going to be in India very soon. Actually, he is supposed to go to Thailand and he has decided to go via Mumbai. But please don’t read too much into this association.”
