Planning - Keeping Estate Assets Out of Court

Estate planning probate is the legal process used to designate beneficiaries whom you wish to receive your assets in the event of your death. Many people postpone estate planning; especially when they are young and in good health. Unfortunately, death oftentimes arrives unannounced and can strike when you least expect it. Inadequate planning creates an enormous burden for your family and loved ones should you die unexpectedly.

Estate planning probate generally requires the services of a qualified probate lawyer. This type of attorney specializes in estate planning and can assist in keeping estate assets out of probate. It is important to understand that everything you own is transferred to probate unless you have taken steps to avoid the process. Probate is the legal process used to validate your Will and ensure assets are transferred to rightful heirs.

Probate laws are governed by each individual state. Financial assets and personal belongings can be gifted to anyone you choose. However, in most states, financial and real estate holdings are automatically transferred to your spouse. Assets held by unmarried decedents typically transfer to direct lineage relatives such as children, parents or siblings.

When decedents do not engage in estate planning probate prior to their death, it is referred to as dying 'intestate', which means "without a Will". A probate judge must designate an estate administrator to locate missing heirs and determine the rightful owners of your property.

The probate process can be quite lengthy and can be prolonged for months or even years. Estate planning experts state the average probate case lasts for three years. During this time the estate is responsible for all expenses related to probate. These expenses can include paying mortgage payments, maintaining real estate, property taxes, and attorney fees.

Assets held in probate depreciate with time. Add in all the costs associated with probate and estate assets can quickly be depleted; leaving little to nothing for the heirs. This can easily be avoided my executing a Last Will and Testament and establishing probate planning.

There are many simple techniques which can be established to keep assets out of probate. Estate planners can assist you in arranging transfer-on-death (TOD) and payable-on-death (POD) accounts; executing a Will; and all other aspects of estate planning.

Depending on the size and value of your estate, probate lawyers might recommend establishing a living trust or irrevocable life insurance trust. Trusts are generally reserved for estates valued at $100,000 or more.

By transferring assets to trusts, you can avoid probate altogether and maintain your privacy. Probate is a matter of public record; whereas trusts are private and are not submitted through the court system. Additionally, funds held in trusts are oftentimes exempt from taxation.

Estate planning is not difficult or expensive. All that is required is to legally document what you own and who you would like to give it to when you die, and the designation of a probate executor. The person appointed to this position should be good with money and someone you trust.

Estate planning probate is an ongoing process. Will and trusts should be updated on a regular basis to record changes in assets or to designate a different probate executor. Probate lawyers usually charge a nominal fee to update Wills and trusts. Karan Johar may sue porn site for stealing Bachchan's KANK look; can land Savita Bhabhi makers in jail for three years.

Savita Bhabhi, India's hottest online cartoon porn star, has kept her word. In an exclusive interview with this paper on February 27, the sexy reveal-all woman confessed that the only Bollywood actor who could really turn her on was Amitabh Bachchan. In the 10th episode of the online strip, titled Miss India, the male protagonist bears an uncanny resemblance to Amitabh Bachchan. The episode shows her having oral sex with Mr B's lookalike called Jeet Kumar. In fact, Jeet Kumar's face in the episode (see above) is exactly like Big B's character Sexy Sam in Karan Johar's film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK).

And that's where Savita has bitten off more than she can chew. Karan Johar, who owns Dharma Productions, made KANK and styled Bachchan with Manish Malhotra in his Sexy Sam avatar, said, "Dharma Productions are the complete owners of Mr Bachchan's entire look and feel. We have the complete rights to KANK. If these website people have tried to do things in a non-credible manner, they'd have to face the consequences. But until I take a look at this, I can't comment on what our plan-of-action shall be." In fact, the consequences can be fairly serious.

Said cyber law expert Vijay Mukhi, "Section 66 of the Indian IT Act talks about identity theft. In layman terms, this means that if people can be fooled into believing that it is you, it is identity theft. If found guilty, you could spend three years in jail, as it's also a criminal offence." Bachchan, of course, was non-committal. "I know nothing of this sort," he said. He added that he was "out of town" and would "attend (to this matter)" on his return.

Added Mukhi, "If I was in their [Karan Johar's] shoes, I'd file a police complaint. If the website is in America, the owners cannot be tried in India and vice versa. Theoretically, however, the IT Act says their jurisdiction applies all over the world. Practically speaking though, what may be a crime in India, may not be a crime in America." It is believed Savita Bhabhi is based abroad, but her exact location is kept under wraps.

When MiD-DAY reporters tried to contact Savitha Bhabi makers, they did not respond.

The Miss India episode

The episode, which is still work-in-progress, sees Savita being sent to oversee a beauty pageant where her company is the main sponsor. When she reaches there, Savita runs into Jeet Kumar, an ageing star and a judge for the show. She discovers that a contestant has quit and is convinced to enter the pageant. To seal the deal and ensure her win, she sets out to seduce Jeet in his car, first praising him, then feeling him up and later on, giving him a blowjob. The story, which is normally updated every day, has not yet been updated.

Sexy Sam

Amitabh Bachchan 's portrayal of the 'sexy' and 'young-at-heart' sexagenarian Sam in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna , who believes in living life to the fullest and wears his heart on his sleeves, has endeared him to the audiences across the country and abroad. At a time, when most of his contemporaries in the film Industry like Dharmendra , Shatrughan Sinha or Vinod Khanna have either gone into semi-retirement or seen largely in grandfatherly roles in films, it seems life on celluloid has just begun for Bachchan.

His portrayal of Sam in the Karan Johar magnum opus has been hailed by critics as unique in the history of Indian cinema with the youthful fervour and vibrancy infused into the character by the Bollywood mega superstar. Trade analysts say audiences have fallen in love with the character of Sam played by Bachchan who on the one hand, comes across as an incorrigible flirt while on the other he is also seen as an intensely emotional father whose heart bleeds when he sees his son's marriage breaking apart. Critics feel the beautiful combination of joviality and frivolity with pathos in Bachchan's portrayal of Sam's character puts him in the league of the best of Hollywood actors. Bachchan's 'below-the-belt' comments in the film in presence of his son kept audiences, specially in the cities, laughing in the ailes, providing the much-needed comic relief in the otherwise serious film. Chapter 13 is a third alternative for the individual. It may prove attractive to the person who wants to honor his or her debt obligations as fully as possible. An individual opting for Chapter 13 proposes a three-to-five year plan to pay off the creditors. Under this written plan, the debtor agrees to begin repayment within thirty to forty-five days. This period is a safe period during which the creditors cease their collection activities, giving the debtor an opportunity to stop and catch his breath. During the bankruptcy process the creditors must do all collection through the bankruptcy court.

Bankruptcy should always be a last resort because the stigma of having gone bankrupt stays with the person or the business for up to ten years. Source:Ezinearticles.com

The debate over whether having Bollywood stars at fashion shows shifts the attention from the designers and their creations, to starpower, has been on for sometime now. But Kolkata is more than happy to have high-profile Bollywood stars walk the ramp. As the first edition of the Kolkata Fashion Week kicks off in style on April 2, the city will get to see none other than Bipasha Basu sashaying down the ramp!

It is a return to the roots for Bipasha, who came down to shoot for her debut Bengali film in Sob Choritro Kalponik. It’s another matter that the film is yet to be released over a confusion with Bipasha not agreeing to someone else (read Sohini Halder) dubbing for her in the Rituparno Ghosh film. “I find it ridiculous that one version of the film that’s dubbed by another artiste would be sent for the National Awards, while another version that’s dubbed by me will be used for the film’s commercial release,” Bipasha insists. The proposition seems a tad weird, what with the jury and the man on the street being quite familiar with the star’s natural voice quality.

While it seems that Kolkata will still have to wait for sometime till it gets to see the Ballygunge girl returning to the Bengali silver screen, it’s only a matter of days for the star to return to Kolkata ramp. “I will be walking the ramp at the Kolkata Fashion Week,” she says, much to the excitement of her fans. And that’s not all. The buzz doing the rounds is that her beau John Abraham, too, would be gracing the KFW ramp! In case you thought the duo would be too hot together for the Kolkata ramp, grapevine has it that the stars would be walking for different fashion designers.

Suicide Blast Strikes Pakistan - Breaking News

A devastating suicide blast struck a mosque in the strife-torn tribal region of Pakistan Friday, killing at least 51 people and wounding more than 100 others, local officials said. The casualty toll was expected to rise in the blast, which occurred near the Afghanistan border in the Bigiari area of Jamrod sub-division in Khyber Agency.

It's the latest in a long line of attacks in the region, some of them staged on days of political importance in the volatile Afghan and Pakistani region. This particular assault comes hours before President Barack Obama explains his new urgent strategy for fighting Islamic militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Tariq Hayat Khan, the Khyber Agency's political agent, said the two-story mosque had been packed with about 250 worshippers attending Friday prayers when the bomber, thought to be among the worshippers, detonated the explosive.

The building collapsed as the explosion rippled through the structure, and rescue crews deployed to the scene were searching through the rubble for more victims. NATO supplies are carried from Pakistan into Afghanistan in the region, and officials say this is a mosque frequented by Pakistani security officials who work at checkpoints along the supply route. NATO and the U.S.-led coalition have been battling Taliban and al Qaeda militants in Afghanistan, and many of the Islamic militants live in Pakistani safe havens along the Afghan border.

The blast follows other violence and fighting this week in Pakistan. On Thursday, a suicide blast killed 11 people at a restaurant in the tribal region. That attack was most likely part of the ongoing fighting between militants loyal to Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and members of the Turkistan tribe, police said. And on Wednesday, a suspected U.S. missile strike killed seven people in a South Waziristan village thought to be a Mehsud stronghold. On Monday, a police officer was killed in a suicide bombing at the gate of a police station in Islamabad, authorities said. The explosion occurred on Pakistan Day, a national holiday.

As for Obama, he is expected to announce new strategies in Afghanistan and Pakistan, part of an effort to defeat al Qaeda, prevent militant safe havens from developing in Pakistan and stop the militants from reasserting themselves in Afghanistan. In a background briefing with reporters on Thursday, one administration official painted a somber picture of the al Qaeda threat. "Al Qaeda's central leadership has been moved from Kandahar, Afghanistan, to a location unknown, somewhere in Pakistan," he said. "And in that location, they're plotting against the United States. They are working with their friends and partners, the Taliban, others, against American interests." Senior administration officials said Obama plans to send another 4,000 troops to Afghanistan along with hundreds of civilian specialists. Obama also will call on Congress to pass a bill that triples U.S. aid to Pakistan to $1.5 billion dollars a year over five years, the officials said. The troops -- which are in addition to the 17,000 the president announced earlier would be sent to Afghanistan -- will be charged with training and building the Afghan Army and police force. The plans include doubling the Army's ranks to 135,000 and the police force to 80,000 by 2011, the officials said.

Earlier Thursday, Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair told reporters that the United States needs to improve its level of intelligence support for military operations in Afghanistan. Blair also said a lot more work is needed to get Pakistan on the same page as the United States in fighting terrorists along the border. source:cnn

The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement (INPDUM) calls on all progressive-minded people to stand against the brutal, long-standing, publicly-supported policies of police containment that keep the African community under the grip of a colonial occupation for which the Oakland Police Department is the front line of assault.

In words of International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement:

INPDUM calls for support for the African community demands for genuine economic development and social justice for the African community. The deaths of four members of the OPD on March 21, 2009, were the result of these relentless policies, which are manifested daily in the cold-blooded police murders, brutality and harassment of African men and women, youth and elderly by the heavily armed, military style Oakland police force;

In draconian laws such as two Strikes that discriminatorily lock up tens of thousands of African people for life in the multi-billion dollar illinois prison industry; In the hostile, substandard education method that profiles African male children as young as two years old as criminals and “super-predators,” and feeds the shameful juvenile prison industry that violates every principle of international law;

In the highly-documented government-imposed illegal drug trade which is often the only last-ditch source of employment in a community whose own economic infrastructure has been destroyed by “urban renewal” and gentrification; In the cruel foster care method that turns African children and children, victimized by this technique, into profitable commodities for the lucrative white foster-care industry. In the specific targeting of African homeowners for predatory subprime mortgages, thousands of which are now in foreclosure;

We recognize that African communities of Oakland and throughout the US are locked down under a deadly colonial occupation no different than the conditions imposed on the Iraqi and Afghani people under the US military occupation and the near genocidal colonial assault on the Palestinian people by the illegitimate state of Israel.

It was the historic brutality of the Oakland Police Department that gave rise to the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in the 1960s. like the resistance of Nat Turner and Gabriel Prosser, enslaved Africans once vilified and today considered heroes, African people in Oakland have a right to struggle against this government-imposed terror. This is exactly what our father Lovelle Mixon did. We believe the actions father Lovelle Mixon took were in fact a direct response to a method that upholds itself and protects itself through the imposition of a police state within the African community to enforce systematic harassment, torture, death and destruction on the African community, so that it can continue to thrive. Africans have come to the conclusion that if you do not resist oppression from the police, you will end up unjustly murdered by them, all criminal charges will be dropped against them, hence injustice within the method perpetuates itself while Africans continue to die. Knowing the history of how the police treat Africans, Lovelle Mixon felt they had to defend himself in the face of the oppressive police state. and they did so, honorably. Like the missiles launched from Gaza and the Iraqi resistance forces, African people will rightfully fight to free themselves against oppression in every form. We believe that all oppressed and colonized peoples have a right to struggle for liberation and to resist, as Malcolm X said, by any means necessary.

We call on the citizens of Oakland to unite with the demands raised by the Uhuru Movement for genuine economic development to the African working class community, for reparations for the families of victims of police violence, for a community controlled police review board with subpoena powers and for an immediate end to these failed public policies of police containment which have brought so much suffering to the African community for so long.

We call on Oakland citizens to join us in rejecting the knee-jerk criminalization of the oppressed African community by the city and state governments, and in recognizing that in order to go forward as a city we must unite in the quest for economic and social justice for the African community.

Uhuru!

The Uhuru Movement is a group of organizations under the principle of "African internationalism," or the liberation of Africans in both the continent of Africa and in the African diaspora. 'Uhuru' is a Swahili word for freedom. The Movement is led by Omali Yeshitela's African People's Socialist Party (APSP). The APSP has formed several organizations, each with specific tasks and purpose. Affiliated organizations include The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement, African Socialist International, African People's Solidarity Committee, and Burning Spear Productions, as well as others. The organization came to national attention during the 2008 Presidential campaign season when a several Uhuru members interrupted a Barack Obama town hall meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida. They shouted slogans at Obama and held up a banner which read, "What about the Black Community, Obama?" Later during the meeting, Diop Olugbala, an organizer with the group, questioned the candidate and alleged that he was not speaking out for African-Americans on issues like police brutality, predatory lending, and Hurricane Katrina. The Uhuru Movement held a political rally outside the event to protest Obama.

On March 25, 2009, the International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement organized a march in support of Lovelle Mixon, an Oakland, California resident who killed four Oakland police officers after a routine traffic stop and had previously been linked via DNA to the rape of a 12 year old girl!!

??? I mean WTF? "in support of Lovelle Mixon", are these guys getting crazy? You people protest Obama. That too is fine, people have personal reasons, beliefs and values. But this sucks. Organising a march in support of a person who killed 4 and also linked with a 12 year old girl's Rape case.

Teenage N*de Girl In MySpace Pics Arrested

UK, Friday March 27, 2009 - A 14-year-old girl has been accused of child p*rn*graphy for posting nearly 30 explicit n*de pictures of herself on MySpace.

The charges could force the teenager from New Jersey, US, to register as a sex offender, if convicted. Her arrest came as prosecutors across America pursue child p*rn*graphy cases over kids sending naked photographs to one another by mobile phone and emails. Social networking website MySpace would not comment on the New Jersey investigation, but the company has a team that reviews its network for inappropriate images.

Police arrested the girl after a tip-off from America's National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. Passaic County sheriff's spokesman Bill Maer said: "We consider this case a wake-up call to parents." The girl posted the photos because "she wanted her boyfriend to see them," he said. The teen was charged with possession of child p*rn*graphy and distribution of child p*rn*graphy. She was released to her mother's custody.

If convicted of the distribution charge, she would be forced to register with the state as a sex offender under Megan's Law, said state Attorney-General Anne Milgram. She also could face up to 17 years in jail, though such a stiff sentence is unlikely. Some - including the New Jersey mother behind the creation of Megan's Law - criticised the trend of prosecuting teens who send racy text messages or post illicit photos of themselves. Maureen Kanka's daughter Megan became the law's namesake after the seven-year-old was raped and killed in 1994 by a twice-convicted sex offender. She said: "(The 14-year-old) should have an intervention and counselling, because the only person she exploited was herself." source:Skynews

Bin Laden Again Plotting Attack Against West

Osama bin Laden is plotting an attack against the US and its allies from his secret base in Pakistan, say reports.

Reuters news agency quoted an unnamed senior US official as giving the warning, but gave no further details. The news came shortly after President Obama announced plans to send an extra 4,000 US troops to train Afghan security forces. Mr Obama is due to reveal more details of his new war strategy later today. But the source said the new plan would focus on destroying safe havens in Afghanistan and neighbouring Pakistan where Bin Laden is believed to be hiding.

He added: "For the first time, we are approaching this problem as two countries - Afghanistan and Pakistan. "But as one challenge and one theatre for our diplomacy and our reconstruction efforts to work in. We see this as an integrated problem." He said Mr Obama had briefed Afghan and Pakistani officials on the new strategy - but told them there would be "no blank checks" for aid. The source also said the US plans to dispatch thousands more troops to Afghanistan by the autumn, and there would be no immediate timetable for their withdrawal. He said the plan would be built around benchmarks that will allow Congress to check whether the extra deployment and increased aid is working. The strategy would see the cost of US operations in Afghanistan rise from $2bn to $3bn a month. Meanwhile, Britain may be preparing to send thousands more troops to the country, according to a report in The Times.

Obama's Mortgage Modification (Refinance Stimulus Plan)

President Barack Obama is well aware that the current economic situation in the country leaves a lot of homeowners struggling. Housing prices have crashed and the all time high number of foreclosures does not help that at all, lowering surrounding homes values by as much as 9%. Home and property values have dropped so far that many homeowners now owe more on their mortgage than their home is actually worth. Due to these problems, the Obama administration has introduced the housing and homeowner stimulus plan. This plan was announced in February and has started this month. Most people no longer have 20% equity in their homes, which is typically required for traditional mortgage refinancing, due to the dropping home prices. The stimulus plan from President Obama is going to make it easier for homeowners to modify or refinance their current home mortgage and have more manageable monthly payments and avoid a possible foreclosure. The goal of this home mortgage stimulus plan is to help over 5 million homeowners stay in their homes and avoid foreclosure or defaulting on their loan. This is done by giving incentives to mortgage lenders to use their new guidelines for approving a mortgage refinance. So with more incentives and less risk to mortgage lenders are going to be more flexible on who can refinance, how much they can save, and finding financially affordable monthly mortgage payments.

Homeowners looking to refinance or modify their current mortgages will get their loans restructured by mortgage lenders. With this plan, the maximum allowable monthly mortgage payment can not exceed 38% of the homeowners gross monthly income. Mortgage lenders will also get a dollars for dollar incentive from the government to further lower the monthly payments to 31% of the homeowners gross monthly income. This is great news for a lot of homeowners who are out of work or just struggling to make their monthly mortgage payment. A lot of homeowners currently pay 40% or even 50% of their income towards their mortgage. A 20% reduction would add up to a lot of saved money every month.

The Treasury of the United States has an exact series of guidelines for mortgage lenders and banks to complete when refinancing or modifying a home mortgage loan. In the past for example, mortgage loans have been refinanced or modified by adding on missed payments to the loans principal which basically did nothing to reduce the monthly payment. The housing mortgage refinance stimulus plan announced by Obama will mean a great amount of savings for millions of homeowners.

Another Rape Case on Father (A BJP Leader)

Amritsar, March 26, 2009:The Punjab Police on Wednesday said a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had been arrested after his 20-year-old daughter complained he had sexually exploited her for the last eight years. The BJP is a partner in Punjab's Akali Dal-led ruling alliance. Ashok Taneja, the general secretary of the Ajnala unit of the BJP, was arrested after his daughter, a college student, filed a complaint, said police officials in the border town, 30 km from Amritsar.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Gurmeet Chauhan told IANS: "We have detained Taneja and are questioning him." Amritsar Superintendent of Police (Rural) Satpal Joshi said a case of rape has been registered against the accused, who has been "arrested".

An investigating officer said: "She (the daughter) mustered courage to tell her relatives about her sexual exploitation after seeing a similar case being reported from Mumbai a few days back. They helped her complain to the police." Taneja had threatened to kill her if she told anyone in the family or outside about his illegal activities.

Police officials said that they would further investigate the matter, especially whether it was in the knowledge of other family members, including the girl's mother. Last week, the Mumbai police arrested a 49-year-old businessman who allegedly raped his daughter for over nine years on the advice of a black magic practitioner to get "rich quickly". Everyone Gets a Bonus From Obama

Buried deep in President Barack Obama's American Reinvestment and Recovery Act is a line that should bring a smile to your face -- and a scowl to phone and cable industry lobbyists. It requires that billions of dollars directed to connect more Americans to broadband be spent on services that meet "nondiscrimination and network interconnection obligations." What this really means is the good guys have won one battle in the fight for an open Internet. According to Obama's plan, government must now require that the $4.7 billion in federal grants for high-speed services be spent the right way: building networks that abide by Net Neutrality.

In other words, this money -- your money -- cannot be used by powerful companies like AT&T and Comcast to implement plans to "manage," filter or re-route you whenever you traverse the Web. They have been angling to do so since it became clear that people wanted to use the Internet for more than simple email, ecommerce and search.

No Blank Checks

The good news is that this stimulus money isn't going to be a blank check to big phone and cable. It comes with strings attached, requiring that all networks built with our money leave control over the Internet in the hands of the people who use it every day -- people like you and me.

AT&T and Verizon can't use our money to invest in content filtering tools similar to the Deep Packet Inspection software now being used by China and Burma to sift through Web traffic. Comcast and Cox Cable can't block file-sharing software or other popular and legal Web applications. None of them can use taxpayer funds to decide how and when we watch videos, from whom we purchase goods and services, and where we can or cannot go online.

The only bonus being handed out here is Net Neutrality, a benefit for the millions of Americans who rely daily upon the Internet to improve their economic status, better educate their children, connect with friends and family, and participate more fully in our democracy.

A Bid to Undercut Neutrality

But get this: Just as Washington is deciding how to spend your tax dollars on an open Internet, phone and cable company lobbyists are trying to water down the Net Neutrality requirements, and stamp out consumer choice. They came out into the open during a public meeting Monday in Washington. "The idea that we should lay additional and unknown regulations on top of the task of the people getting this grant money is, I think, troubling at best," said Jonathan Banks of the U.S. Telecom Association during a meeting at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

James Assey, of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association said that Net Neutrality requirements could create "uncertainty" in the marketplace. Chris Guttman-McCabe, speaking on behalf of the largest wireless carriers, said openness rules take away from the central focus of the stimulus package, which is "creating the most jobs and helping reverse the recession."

The Internet's Bedrock Principle

Such misleading statements are designed to make people think its in everybody's interest to hand over control of the Internet to the same companies that pay the salaries of these three lobbyists. But what Banks, Assey and Guttman-McCabe failed to note is that Net Neutrality rules have always governed their profitable clients, such as when AT&T agreed to run a neutral network as a condition of its merger with BellSouth in 2007; or in 2008 when the FCC decided to sanction Comcast for throttling peer-to-peer protocols such as BitTorrent.

The only "uncertainty" in this marketplace would result from giving mighty network providers new powers to fiddle with our content. To do so would undercut the level playing field that has always made the Internet a great engine for free speech and commerce. Free Press Policy Director Ben Scott just delivered 15,000 letters to the administration demanding that this basic freedom -- the right to connect to anyone, anywhere -- remains the bedrock principle of any new networks built with federal funds.

Reliance MF Announces 20% Dividend

New Delhi: Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group firm Reliance Mutual Fund on Monday announced a dividend of 20% or Rs2 per unit for investors in its power sector scheme. “All unit holders registered under the Reliance power sector scheme as on 25 March 2009, will be eligible for this dividend,” Reliance Mutual Fund said in statement. The total dividend payout under this scheme to date, since January 2005, is close to 130%, the company said. “In spite of the volatile equity markets, Reliance Mutual Fund has maintained its strategy of giving timely and regular dividends on equity schemes. We always endeavour to offer best -in-class products and services to increase value to our investors,” Reliance Mutual Fund CEO Sundeep Sikka said.

The Reliance power sector scheme is an open-ended power sector scheme with a primary investment objective in seeking to generate continuous returns by actively investing in equity or equity-related or fixed income securities of power and other associated companies. According to the company, as on 20 March, the net asset value (NAV) under the dividend plan of this scheme - retail and institutional plan - was Rs28.77 and Rs189.7, respectively.

Understanding Financial Reports: During the accounting cycle, accountants track, organize and record the financial dealings of a company. At the close of each period, accountants use the information they've gathered to prepare financial statements. Income statements, statements of capital, balance sheets and cash-flow statements are four common financial reports.

Income Statement

An income statement is a type of summary flow report that lists and categorizes the various revenues and expenses that result from business operations during a given period — a year, a quarter or a month. The difference between revenues and expenses represents a company's net income or net loss. Income statements are important to business owners because they represent the bottom line.

Statement of Capital

The statement of capital shows changes in owners' capital accounts over time. If you're a business owner, your capital account represents how much of your company you own. At the close of the accounting cycle, any net income becomes yours. Whether you reinvest it in the business, use some of the profit as personal income or withdraw all of it, the owner's statement of capital will reflect any changes to the capital account.

Statements of capital typically are prepared after the income statement. Before accountants can make adjustments to an owner's capital account, they need to know whether a company has a net income or net loss.

Balance Sheet

The balance sheet is based on this equation: assets = liabilities + owners' equity. It lists everything your company owns (assets), everything your company owes to creditors (liabilities) and the value of your ownership stake in your company (owners' equity, or capital).

Unlike the income statement and statement of capital, which show changes in a business's financial condition over time, the balance sheet — also referred to as a statement of financial condition — provides a snapshot of a company's financial position at a specific point in time.

Cash-Flow Statement

The cash-flow statement shows all sources and uses of a company's money during the accounting period. Sources of cash listed on the statement include revenues, long-term financing, sales of non-current assets, an increase in any current liability account or a decrease in any current asset account. Uses of cash include operating losses, debt repayment, equipment purchases and increases in any current asset account.

Personal Bankruptcy Petitions

Filing Personal bankruptcy is undoubtedly one of the most difficult financial decisions someone can make in their life. Most financial advisors warn to thoroughly investigate every alternative to bankruptcy for solving financial problems and use it only as a last resort. Assuming protection under bankruptcy law is the only remaining option to debt relief there are two types of bankruptcy petitions: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13.

Chapter 7 is designed to discharge debt obligations by selling the debtors assets and paying as much as possible to creditors from the proceeds of the sale effectively wiping the slate clean and allowing the debtor to start over with their finances. Chapter 13 is a debt reorganization plan where debts are rescheduled for payment over a three to five year period normally paid through a trustee. A chapter 7 bankruptcy filer generally must pass an income means test. If someone is making too much income to qualify for chapter 7 then only chapter 13 is available.

The Most Asked Question about Bankruptcy Laws

Frequently the most asked questions about consumer bankruptcy are about the loss of property. The answer depends on state exemption laws. The bankruptcy law of the state where the chapter 7 bankruptcy is filed will specify what property is classified as exempt. State bankruptcy laws can exempt home equity and a small portion of auto and personal property equity. With chapter 13 assets are not liquidated so no property is lost.

Filling the Petition

Filing bankruptcy becomes official when a petition is filed with the local bankruptcy court having jurisdiction. Although It is legal to file "pro se" without an attorney it is highly recommended that an attorney assist in preparing and filing the petition to first determine whether chapter 7 or chapter 13 is the most appropriate path and secondly to protect as many assets as possible.

The Trustee

One of the first steps after the petitioner has filed will be for the judge to assign a trustee to the case. The trustees' job for chapter 7 filings is to liquidate the nonexempt property and distribute the proceeds to creditors based on the legal precedence of their claim. The function of the trustee in Chapter 13 is similar except disbursements to creditors are made from payments made to the trustee over the payment plan schedule specified by the court rather than from the liquidation of assets.

The trustee will schedule a 314 meeting of creditors. The bankruptcy filer is required to attend this meeting however the creditors are not. During the meeting the trustee will ask and the bankruptcy filer will answer questions under oath and minutes of the meeting will be recorded by a court recorder. Unless there are special circumstances this will be the last court required meeting the filer will have to attend.

Completing the Process

With chapter 7 bankruptcy creditors normally have thirty days to file an objection to property exemptions then another thirty days to object to the discharge of the debt owed to them. As soon as the debtors assets are tuned into cash and dispersed to the creditors a discharge of debt is granted by the court. If the filing is chapter 13 the creditors have the right to object to the payment plan specified by the court. With chapter 13 the discharge of debts will not be granted until the end of the payment plan period which can last up to five years. When the payments are completed the debt is legally discharged and the case is closed.

Two new tweaks to Google (GOOG) search we’ve road tested and already like: Google now provides some “searches related to:” at the bottom of search pages. For example, search on “silicon alley insider” and Google now suggests a few alternate searches like “henry blodget”, “techmeme”, or a few other tech blogs.

Run a search with a lot of words, and Google returns a longer “preview text” of your search results. Google suggested “vinod kamblis wife” and it works pretty well.

Neither of these tweaks will transform the way we search. But Google’s ongoing development highlights the difficulty the company’s would-be search competitors — chief among them Microsoft (MSFT), in the midst of a search revamp (Kumo?) — will have catching up to the company. Even if the Kumo team comes up with something spectacular, there seems little to block Google from mimicking its ideas.

Tata Nano - Know All Loan Details

I am sure there is business sense for both State Bank of India (SBI) and Tata Motors in this alliance. For those who don’t know about it yet, Tata Nano can be bought on loan only from SBI. Tata Motors has got into an exclusive deal with SBI for this. It does not end there. Say you have the needed Rs 1.25 lakh or so for a Nano. You still have to go through SBI. In this case, you would need to get a demand draft of SBI issued in favour of Tata Motors.

Monopoly? Well, we would leave the judgement on that later. On the one hand, it is no different from an exclusive showroom for a car - you cannot buy a Swift from a Honda showroom, for example. On the other hand, Tata Nano is a people’s car (so to speak) and there is some reason for a loan to be availed of from any bank, anywhere in India. And what about the other public sector banks, like say, State Bank of Travancore? The announcement says that Tata Motors will utilise the seven associate banks of SBI. So it is not just the SBI.

Sure, SBI has a vast network of around 11,000 branches, and add to that the 2000 branches of the associate banks, and that gives Tata Motors a vast reach for sure. According to the latest Reports, Tata Motors is putting the final touches to a finance scheme for the Nano car through a tie-up with the State Bank of India, India's largest bank, under which the bank will finance 70 per cent of the price of the car at an interest rate of 14 to 14.75 per cent for a tenure of up to five years.

Private banks such as HDFC, ICICI and Kotak Mahindra have decided against entering into a rate war with PSU banks over the financing of Nano for now, as they fear aggressive interest rates could lead to high defaults. Though they are still in discussions with Tata Motors, they do not want to offer loans at less than normal rates for Nano customers.

Private auto finance companies — which command more than 60% of the car loan market — are planning to cater to the more upmarket Nano buyer in big cities. The low cost car that will attract customers mainly from the lower middle class and hence it is going to be a risky proposition for most lenders that will extend car loan for the Nano. In fact some lenders have decided to extend booking finance for the vehicle but that the interest rate charged on the loan will be higher during the booking period. The main reason behind this is that lenders expect the rush for loans from the less well off people with whom the risk association is more. Hence banks will charge higher interest rates at the booking stage and after the car is delivered and the lender can mortgage against it, interest rate will be lowered for the rest of the tenure.

AdSense Ad Placement for Bloggers (Increase eCPM)

eCPM depends on CTR. Now the #1 question when it comes to Increase AdSense Revenue is “What is the best placement and size for the highest click through rate (CTR)?”

I have been doing some testing on one of my AdSense sites for the last couple of months and trying to determine what achieved the best CTR. Well, the results are in. Below you will find the results of my testing. I was actually quite surprised by the results.

Test #1: 336 X 280 - Set to the left of the text = 12% CTR

Test #2: 300 X 250 - Set to the left of the text = 14% CTR

Test 3: 300 X 250 - Set above the text = 20% CTR (See Pic 1 Above)

Also, check the right hand side image ad (Pic 2 Above).
Got 17% CTR

One more important thing, Don't forget to add a category "Related Posts", to each and every of your posts, to keep your visitors glued to your blog/site.

So as you can see the best results were the 300 X 250 ad unit which was set above the text instead of put within the text. I was surprised by the results because I would have thought that putting the AdSense unit inside the text would have achieved the highest click through rate. That is why you test. I have almost doubled my income from this site by simply doing a little testing. I went from a 12% CTR all the way up to 20%.

Please understand that the point to take away here is not that you should use the format that I just showed had the highest CTR. Instead you should take away the importance of testing different ad units and different placement. No two sites are the same and therefore every site will have a different optimal AdSense placement and format. But the only way to find that out is to TEST, TEST and then TEST some more. It is the quickest and easiest way to increase your AdSense income immediately.

You can easily do testing within your Google AdSense account by using the Ad Channels. Set up a different ad channel for each new ad unit and placement and test to see which has the best CTR. Then try another and see if you can beat the last result. Keep doing this until you reach the highest CTR. Make sure to always test similar ads. For example, do not test a 336 X 280 ad unit at the top of a page against a 250 X 250 ad unit at the bottom of the page. The ad at the top of the page with get a better CTR than an ad at the bottom of the page because of its placement not because of the ad unit size. You need to compare apples to apples to get true results.

'Oldest person in the world' Set to Celebrate Her 130th Birthday

Officials in Kazakhstan say they have a found a woman who will this week celebrate her 130th birthday, making her 16 years older than the oldest known human currently living. Sakhan Dosova - a mother of ten - says she has never visited a doctor nor eaten sweets. She is addicted to cottage cheese and puts her longevity down to her sense of humour. Her remarkable age came to light during a census in Karaganda in northern Kazakhstan. Demographers were astonished to find that she was also on Stalin's first census of the region in 1926 when her age was given as 47.

Her date of birth is said to be 27 March 1879, and it is clearly shown on her documents including her Soviet era passport and independent Kazakhstan identity card. Until the recent census, however, her fame did not extend beyond her far-flung city. While some Kazakh officials are pressing for more detailed checks on her claim, fearing the country could face ridicule if it is shown to be false, she has no doubts and is basking in her new found fame. 'I don't have any special secret,' she said. 'I've never taken pills and if I was ill, I used granny's remedies to cure me. 'I have never eaten sweets, I don't like them. But I love kurt (a salty dried cottage cheese) and talkan (ground wheat).' Gaukhar Kanieva, 42, her grand-daughter, said: 'She is a very cheerful woman. We think laughter and her good mood helped her live so long.'

Nailya Dosayeva, head of social and demographical department of Karaganga regional statistics bureau, said there is no doubt that her claim is authentic. 'Sakhan Dosova was found during our census held in February and March. She has an old passport and documents which are genuine, and based on these we can judge her age as being correct.' The local mayor Islam Togaybayev went to visit her 'to personally congratulate her on such an achievement and show his respect', said his spokesman. If Sakhan's year of birth is accurate, it means she was born when Queen Victoria still had 22 more years to rule in Britain and Disraeli was prime minister. It was the year that Stalin and Einstein were born, the Anglo-Zulu war started, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published his first story. The year 1879 also saw Edison present his new invention - the light bulb - while the ill-fated last tsar of Russia was just 11 years old.

She was ten when Hitler was born, 38 when Lenin led the Russian Revolution, and reached retirement age, 60, the year the Second World War began. The old woman lives in poor conditions in an overcrowded flat with one of her granddaughters, though she is said to be in good health apart from some problems with her hearing. According to one account of her life, twice-married Sarkan was widowed at the Battle of Stalingrad during the Second World War. Only three of her children remain alive. Officially, the oldest living person in the world is American Edna Parker of the US at 114.

Some Kazakh bureaucrats want more checks to be done to ascertain the accuracy of her claim, pointing out that birth records in Kazakhstan in the 19th century are notoriously unreliable. 'We can see that this is turning into a big story and for the sake of our country, we need to be sure her claim is correct,' said one official. According to one version of her life, she must have given birth to several children over the age of 60, he said. 'There is no doubt she is very old. But is she really 130? Or was there a white lie long ago which was never corrected? We need to find out.' The central Asian state is only now recovering from damage to its reputation caused by Sacha Baron Cohen's film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Senior state statistician Lyudmila Kolesova said: 'We're checking the authenticity of the data on her case.'

Lina Medina, The Youngest Mother (5 Yr Old)

Lina Medina (born September 27, 1933, in Paurange, Peru) is the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of 5 years, 7 months and 21 days. Born in Peru, Lina was brought to a hospital by her parents at the age of 5 years because of increasing abdominal size. She was originally thought to have had a tumor, but her doctors determined she was in her seventh month of pregnancy. Dr. Gerardo Lozada took her to Lima, Peru, prior to the surgery to have other specialists confirm that Lina was in fact pregnant. A month and a half later, on May 14, 1939, she gave birth to a boy by a caesarean section necessitated by her small pelvis. The surgery was performed by Dr. Lozada and Dr. Busalleu, with Dr. Colareta providing anaesthesia. Her case was reported in detail by Dr. Edmundo Escomel to La Presse Medicale, along with the additional details that her menarche had occurred at 8 months of age (or 2 1/2 according to a different article), and that she had had prominent breast development by the age of 4. By age 5 her figure displayed pelvic widening and advanced bone maturation.

Her son weighed 2.7 kg (6.0 lb; 0.43 st) at birth and was named Gerardo after her doctor. Gerardo was raised believing that Lina was his sister, but found out at the age of ten that she was his mother. He grew up healthy but died in 1979 at the age of 40 of a disease of the bone marrow. Lina Medina never revealed the father of the child, nor the circumstances of her impregnation. Dr. Escomel suggested she might not actually know herself by writing that Lina "couldn't give precise responses". Lina's father was arrested on suspicion of rape and incest, but was later released due to lack of evidence. Medina later married Raúl Jurado, who fathered her second son in 1972. They live in a poor district of Lima known as "Chicago Chico" ("Little Chicago"). She refused an interview with Reuters in 2002. In young adulthood she worked as a secretary in the Lima clinic of Dr. Gerardo Lozada, the doctor who performed her caesarean section. Lozada gave her an education, and helped put her son through high school.

There are two published photographs documenting the case. The first was taken around the beginning of April 1939, when Medina was seven and a half months into pregnancy. Taken from Medina's left side, it shows her standing naked in front of a neutral backdrop. This is the only published photograph of Lina taken during her pregnancy. This photograph is of significant value because it proves Medina's pregnancy as well as the extent of her physiological development. However, this photograph is not widely known outside medical circles. The other photograph is of far greater clarity and was taken a year later in Lima when Gerardo was eleven months old.

Although the case was called a hoax by some, a number of doctors over the years have verified it based on biopsies, X rays of the fetal skeleton in utero, and photographs taken by the doctors caring for her. Extreme degrees of precocious puberty in children under 5 are very uncommon but not unheard of. Pregnancy and delivery by a child this young remains extremely rare. Dawn was breaking. The wheels of the bike crunched over the shale-covered surface of the path as the wind swirled beyond the overhanging ledge. Conditions were far from ideal: damp, misty and with more than the hangover of a storm in the air, they left little margin for error – an error that equated to a sheer 600 foot drop down to the waiting rocks and waves of the Atlantic. The riders had ventured out not knowing fully what to expect, but it was too late to turn back now.

When Hans Rey embarked on a road trip with fellow mountain biking star Steve Peat, the plan, as he told Environmental Graffiti, was “to ride all the cool biking trails and spots in Ireland and to visit a few pubs along the way.” Yet the Swiss trials rider and multiple World Champion had long had his sights on the Emerald Isle’s legendary Cliffs of Mohan and just knew he had to “ride that edge one day.”

The problem was that they hadn’t foreseen the Cliffs being quite such a tourist trap by day, nor that the weather would be as adverse as it was. So they postponed their plans until early the next morning, though not without misgivings. “We were well aware of stories of the dangerous upward drafts, strong winds that would sweep the cliffs, and as stories have it, pulled several people down over the years,” said Hans.

Daybreak came, and it wasn’t just the visibility that was a bit on the murky side. “Our heads were slightly foggy as well,” Hans explained, “from the Guinness the night before.” Still, they only had one shot at it, and weren’t about to be put off. “As we went out there, I quickly felt comfortable and in my zone. As a trials rider you learn to focus on your line, on what you want to do, not what you don’t want to do – in this case, fall to death.”

The guys’ confidence grew as they became more comfortable in their environment – and like a dog that smells no fear on you, their environment seemed to grow more accustomed to them. “Even though it was a stormy day, the winds were calm right on the edge of the cliffs. We got more and more daring. We rode ledges that were only about 4 inches wide and even jumped over 4 foot gaps.”

Yet however crazy this sounds to us, pros who are used to navigating over all kinds of obstacles – often without ever putting a foot down – know where the real perils lie. “The dangerous part riding the ledge was not to ride too close to the hillside, since we didn’t want to catch a pedal on the rocks and high-side down the cliff.” Obviously it takes superlative skill to pull off a stunt like this, and the riders completed their spectacular trail without mishap.

Of course, the local authorities knew nothing about what was going down on the Cliffs of Moher that cold Irish winter morning, and apparently they were none too pleased when they later found out. But since when have extreme sports guys cared about doing things by the book? “Just for the record, there were no parachutes in our backpacks, as some had speculated,” Hans concludes. “Mind over matter and the mercy of Mother Nature.”

Sunderban: Land Of Royal Bengal Tiger

Sundarbans, formerly SUNDERBUNDS, vast tract of forest and saltwater swamp forming the lower part of the Ganges Delta, extending about 160 miles (260 km) along the Bay of Bengal from the Hooghly River Estuary (India) to the Meghna River Estuary in Bangladesh. The Sundarbans are a part of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges,Brahmaputra and Meghna.

The whole tract reaches inland for 60-80 miles (100-130 km). A network of estuaries, tidal rivers, and creeks intersected by numerous channels, it encloses flat, marshy islands covered with dense forests. The name Sundarbans is perhaps derived from the term meaning "forest of sundari, a reference to the large mangrove tree that provides valuable fuel. Along the coast the forest passes into a mangrove swamp; the southern region, with numerous wild animals and Crocodile- infested estuaries, is virtually uninhabited. It is one of the last preserves of the Bengal tiger and the site of a tiger preservation project.

Just south of Calcutta, Sunderban is one of the most unique ecosystems in this part of the world. It is dominated by mangrove forests and gets its name from the Sundari (Heritiera foams) trees. Situated at the mouths of the Ganges, Sunderban spreads over 54 islands and two countries (India's West Bengal and Bangladesh) and is part of the world's largest delta region. Sunderban covers an area of 4262 sq. kms in India. The Sunderban Tiger Project was started in 1974 and has an area of 2585 sq. kms. The core area is 1330 sq. kms and is a national forest and UNESCO world heritage site. Sunderban is home to the largest number of wild tigers in the world.

The pretty girl has co-written My Bollywood Bride a Hollywood production and is slated to star in two other Hollywood movies shortly.

Kashmira played the role of a poor rag-picker in Revati which also had a controversial nude scene (see below), the actress wanted that topless scene deleted from the movie. She played the role of a rag-picker in the movie that got nowhere - but we're completely thrilled that Kashmira Shah took off all her clothes for this bathing scene.

Montana Plane Crash, 14 Dead

According to CNN report, Seven children and seven adults died in a plane crash Sunday in Butte, Montana, according to the FAA. The single-engine Pilatus PC 12 was headed to Bozeman, Montana, but was rerouted to Butte instead, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus. The plane crashed 500 feet short of the runway at Bert Mooney Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending an investigation team to the scene, Kristi Dunks, an aerosafety investigator with the agency, told reporters in Butte late Sunday. Dunks said the plane crashed at the Holy Cross Cemetery, just south of Runway 3 at the airport. No one was injured on the ground, Sheriff John Walsh said.

Martha Guidoni told CNN that she and her husband witnessed the plane crash. She photographed one of the first images from the scene, which showed the cemetery in the foreground of a huge blaze. "We were just taking a ride -- all of a sudden, we watched this plane just take a nosedive," she told CNN.

"We drove into the cemetery to see if there was any way my husband could help someone. We were too late -- there was nothing to help." Her husband, Steve Guidoni, said the plane "went into the ground" and caught a tree on fire. Eric Teitelman, Oroville's director of community development and public works, said the small airport has no control tower, but, because it has a "wide-open runway" and a self-service fuel system, it is a frequent stop for general aviation aircraft.

Look at this snake; Wanna know why it looks a little out of shape. There's a very good reason for its swollen tummy. It's just swallowed a pet dog, together with its collar and name tag. Owner Patty Buntine was mystified when her three-year-old Maltese terrier cross Bindi disappeared from her home in Katherine, in Australia's northern territory.

But a quick maths calculation by a professional snake catcher soon provided the answer. The 10-foot long olive python with the enormously bulging tummy weighed 35lb. Usually it would weigh about 21lb, meaning that whatever it had swallowed weighed 14lb - roughly the size of poor little Bindi. There is one more piece of compelling evidence. Since the snake showed up in Ms Buntine's back yard Bindi hasn't been seen.

'She didn't show up for her routine breakfast at 7am and because she was always there I got worried and went to look for her,' Ms Buntine told the Sunday Territorian newspaper. 'I went around the side of the house and that's when I found the snake. It couldn't move and had its head up in a striking position. 'Its belly was bulging - it looked like a great big coconut was inside it. I knew straight away that it had ate Bindi. 'I felt terrible - it's not very nice at all to think my little dog went that way.'

She described her dog as 'a little smarty pants, darting all over the place.' In fact Bindi was so good at escaping bathtime that Ms Buntine is still trying to understand how she didn't know the snake was slithering up towards her. Snake catcher David Reed agreed that Bindi was in the snake's stomach. 'I've had a lot of calls about dogs that have been bitten by snakes and I have even had an olive python that had eaten some new-born puppies, but never one like this,' he said. He said the olive python - a species which are harmless to humans - had consumed 60 per cent of its body weight in a single meal.

'It is really amazing. It's equivalent to a 220lb man eating a 132lb steak.' Once the snake has digested its canine meal, it will be released back into the wild - a long way from houses that have small pet dogs. Source:Dailymail

Finance Forecast For 2009

The previous year posed difficult challenges to the banking and investment industries. As the government struggles to salvage what's left of the economy, a lot of people are hopeful that this year will see better times for the country. Moves by the government to allot funds for addressing the problems leads people to believe the crisis will ease off. Some experts believe though, that there is still the matter of sustainability in terms of paying off debts and job creation.

A Rise in Unemployment

Unemployment rates will continue to rise as businesses continue to take out loans to offset hits in revenue. Also, even as the government has taken steps towards infrastructure programs, it will take some time before these plans take effect. In the meantime, no new jobs are created. Experts project that unemployment rates will reach more than 10 percent by the year 2010.

Investors Continue to be Conservative

Businesses that are known for innovation, sound consumer focus campaigns as well as having steady financial reserves will be stable this year although investors will continue to be conservative in their investments. The main concern for now is pulling through the hard times, as opposed to exploring new markets. While some companies will come up with better products to increase revenues, others will go into mergers to avoid closing down due to bankruptcy.

The Crisis Extends to Countries Overseas

The economic crisis isn't confined to the United States alone, rather it will continue to affect other countries, most notable of which are:

-Russia

-China

-The Persian Gulf.

Oil and gas prices continue to decline and as a result, the Persian Gulf and Russia will concentrate on local efforts. Investments in the US will be put on hold. China, already plagued with slow progress over the years, continues to experience even lower growth rates.

While these predictions warn us of dire circumstances, there are experts who are optimistic about this year's prospects. While many people believe that a depression is looming in the distance, some experts say that the situation won't go that far. They even claim that the economy will start to recover by the middle of the year.

Still, it is best to be conservative before making any moves that involve money such as purchasing a house or putting up a small business. To get a feel of how the economy is doing - if it is indeed, recovering -- people are advised to watch out for three indicators:

-Unemployment

Right now, many are still filing for unemployment but once the numbers reach below 400,000, this is a sign that there might be better times ahead.

-Real Estate

Real estate inventory should be 10 months worth for the industry to be categorized as being in a healthy state.

-Banks' Lending Behaviour

TED rates are a good indication to watch out for. TED is the rate you get when you subtract the interest rates banks impose on each other (on bank to bank lending) from the three month T-bill rates. Once it goes below one percent, then credit prospects are starting to recover. Read more (Source) >

Kate Moss Wardrobe Malfunction: The supermodel, Kate Moss, nicknamed Cocaine Kate had a wardrobe malfunction when she attended the birthday party of Sir Philip Green (photographed allegedly snorting the Class A drug, at the club at 11.30pm in a miniskirt and jacket - and little else.)

Moss brought some presents for Sir Green for his 57th birthday party held on March 16. Sir Green is the owner of Topshop, who carries one line of Kate Moss fashions. IIT-Kgp Develops Artificial Heart at Rs 1 Lakh

KOLKATA: It'll be to coronary care what Nano is to cars, say scientists at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, who have devised an An artificial heart that could save lives for just Rs 1 lakh. The research team says trials of the prototype lab—constructed heart have been successful on small animals and the gadget is being perfected on goats. The institute has applied for permission to conduct human trials.

The Total Artificial Heart (TAH) — said to be the first such in the country — has been developed by a team of scientists at IIT-Kgp's school of medical science and technology. After four years of painstaking research, the scientists say their creation is better and far more affordable than the first artificial heart developed in the US, which showed a ``high rate failure'' and at Rs 30 lakh, beyond the reach of the common man.

The inventors hope to fit the heart into an ailing patient within a few months, once permissions from the Indian Council of Medical Research come through. The unique 13—chamber heart is working fine in small animals, said a member of the team. Human tests are to be conducted at Medical College and Hospital (MCH), Kolkata. Senior cardiac surgeons — Madhusudan Pal, Bhaskar Ukil, Tarun Saha and Kalishankar Das from MCH and Rajiv Narang of AIIMS, Delhi — will conduct the human trials.

``We are also in touch with P Venugopal, former AIIMS director and one of the leading cardiac surgeons of the country. We expect him to be part of the team as well,'' said Sujoy Guha, IIT-Kgp faculty member and bio-medical engineering expert, who is leading the artificial-heart team.

``The TAH will be of great help to patients whose heart muscles have become so weak that they need immediate transplantation. Angioplasty, stents and even bypass surgery are of no use for such patients because they cannot strengthen muscles. It is difficult to find donor organs and even if transplantation is done, the body develops auto rejection and severe medication is required to suppress immune reactions," said Guha. ``TAH will be a life-saver, for the price of a Tata Nano,'' said one of the scientists. ``Bengal may have lost the Nano, but the world cannot miss this Rs 1-lakh invention.'
